Smile Adding Memory

Is there any logic to adding more memory to the CUSL2? I currently have a 256MB stick of GENERIC PQI ram that I can overclock to 160 MHz. Yes, that's right! 160 MHz. However, I bought another 256MB stick of a different brand of generic ram (the computer shop didn't stock PQI anymore) and it wouldn't clock that high - no surprise. So, I went back and bought some high end CL2 ram and it won't clock that high either! Wierd, huh?

So, I totally removed all overcloking settings (i.e. stock CPU and FSB speeds) and went back to 3,3,3,5,7 and I get random lock ups. Can you not mix ram types?

Thanks,

-C

you got quite lucky with the generic stick i would say..
mine will only do 148ish...
about adding more memory, well that depends on what you do, what apps you use. photo editing and grpahiocs will enjoy like more RAM....most 98 systems will be very happy with 256MB..tho if you run 2k it might like to have a bit more...i have 512MB under 2k..runs like a dream..
mixing RAM is a hit and miss...generally recommended not too...but it can work..my generic 256MB are infineon/hyundai and i have no probs, but other mixed sticks did cause issues for me..so its luck of the draw i would say...

The race for quality has no finish line- so technically, it's more like a death march.

Purchased two 128 Meg sticks last year - had no problem. Order a 256 stick and removed one of the 128 sticks - had a problem. I'm now ordering a second 256 stick in hopes to not have this problem. I must have 512 Meg now - Oracle 9i requires it.

BTW: All sticks were Mosel PC133 CAS2 to 150.
