Aah... after some rational-chip-manufactorer-think'in I got the point:

All the chips are created equal, the stable and cooler ones are marked "higher" up the ladder...

the I GHZ was not availble until the 6th... so it has undergone some serious debugging

can't wait.....

6th of July is not that long. It's worth to wait. Until then, you'll have the best available upgrade option

The 6th stepping...

When a CPU is made it's the 1st stepping and those are the slowest.
Bugs and instability problems are solverd and the next stepping is born, those CPU's will archieve higher clockspeeds than the previous.
More bugs and instability probs are corected and yet another stepping is thrown onto the market. and so on....

So the I GHZ (6th stepping) is a very stable CPU.

I'm waiting for a friend to buy a PIV system so I can buy his PIII

No,not at all. There`s many cC0 cores that can`t hit more than 1000Mhz while some few cB0 can a bit higher.Of course cC0 is better than cB0 and cD0 should be better than cC0.
Especially when you compare different origin cpus, you`ll get different OC capability.
If you get two same speed cpu, same stepping, same origin, same package(OEM or boxed),and the part numbers are quite close then they must be both equal performers. In other situations, the result may be different.

BTW there are many bugs unfixed even on cC0 ,but you won`t notice any.
