Can my old Asus P4P800 SE take in a pair of DDR2-667

Hello,

New poster here.
I have an old Asus P4P800 SE board (865PE chipset) currently installed with 2 X 512M DDR400/PC3200(CL2.5) memory stick. I'm thinking of adding another pair of ram to make it a total of 2G.
Problem is the price of DDR400 is more than twice of a cheap DDR2-667 in my place so I think I might as well get DDR2-667. I have some question here:

1) I aware that my mobo won't be able to run the DDR2 in it's full speed but my question is will the RAM work at all in my mobo?
2) Assuming DDR2-667 does work in my mobo will it cause conflict with my currently installed DDR400?
3) Assuming that the DDR400 and DDR2-667 can co-exist peacefully on the mobo, will it slow down my system since my DDR400 has a CL rating of 2.5 and the DDR2-667 I'm looking at is somewhat like CL5 ?

Thanks everyone for reading my post.

Welcome to ABXZone.

I'm afraid you cannot put DDR2 in that motherboard. You can only install DDR.

As you can see in the pic below, DDR and DDR2 modules have a different number of pins and the notch is located in a different spot. It is physically impossible to put DDR2 in your motherboard (without breaking it or the RAM).

Your motherboard was designed for DDR only.

Thanks a lot for your reply. Never know that DDR and DDR2 are physically different. Too bad, but at least save me trouble thinking which RAM to buy.
