| Can slower memory ever be better? I am running at an FSB of 226 at timings of 2.5-4-3-8 in descending order on CPUz. On CTIAW my bandwidth is 6065;on Sisoftware Sandra it is 4700/4696. I can get nowhere near an FSB of 250 to take advantage of my PC 4000 memory. Would I be better off getting PC 3200 that I can at tighter memory settings? Deerslayer will come to the machine and get me when I say this: I am never satisfied with my FSB speed. I have run the divider at 3:2 and I can get to about an FSB of 232. I was going to buy some G.SKILL at PC 4300 but thought better of it if my FSB never gets near the appropriate speed to take advantage of it. Have I simply put memory that I cannot take advantage of on this machine in my getting some advantage for example with bandwidth? Deerslayer -- at least I'm thinking. I do appreciate your thoughts. As always, you're insight is greatly appreciated. Jim Triona ![]()

| Jim for some strange reason you have two identical posts in the same forum; one at 6:40 PM EDST and another and 7:05 EDST ... Say bye to the 7:05 thread ![]()

| have you tried to tighten the timings on those sticks?? you may be able to as you are not running near advertised speed/timings, so you may be able to go to like 2.5-3-3-7

| I'd say go for something slower and tighter... um, memory, I mean. You have the booster, so why not try something that is tight at stock but scales well with voltage? Quote:

| Maybe I'm starting to learn something. I have been able to set the timings to 2.5-3-3-6. Although I am running only an FSB of 217, my machine seems to be quicker. The bandwith on CTIAW is 5828 and on SisSandra 4678/4520 is something less than with the looser timings. However, it just appears to be faster overall. I will try to nudge up the FSB a little bit. I have run the memory test several times and it is stable. However, at about an FSB of 223 it crashes. Nonetheless, I like this new quickness. I am not imagining things, am I? As always, I appreciate your interest and input. Thank you. Jim Triona
