The problem is 16MB IC's are hard to come by...512mb modules will be doubled sided as 32MB IC's are no problem.

This will make researching you chosen memory imperitive before you buy.

Bigtoe >> it seems the PC3500 Memory level 2 from Mushkin can run 2-2-2 at DDR433 which makes it the fastest memory around (thanks to their web site). I've ordered one kit to test&compare it to the PC3500 plat I ordered from OCZ, have you ever heard anything about this lvl2 memory ??

I would have to toss the Corsair PC3500 in there too. Winbond BH5s and a proven design. Can you get Corsair in France or are the duties too high?

Mike.

Duties are high but we still can get Corsair there , unfortunately the PC3500 we find here are v1.2 modules so CH5 and not anymore BH5.

Bigtoe >> I think my test will be finished very soon, I could simply not run the PC3500 plat on my P4C800-E ...

Here is the mail from OCZ for the prob I had today :

>Hi Ben,
> Sorry to hear your problems. Currently we are experiencing
>compatibility problem between Asus 875 chipset motherboard and our
>PC3500. The motherboard does not take CAS 2 in memory timings even all
>our PC3500 and PC3500 platinum dual channel are hand tested. We are
>trying to get different parts for people who use Asus P4C800 and P4P800
>motherboard with our PC3500 memory. We should be able to get those
>parts within a day or two. Once we receive them, I will personally test
>a pair to replace your existing pair. Hope you can allow us a couple of
>days to have the replacement parts ready. In the meantime, please
>provide us the following information for replacement. Then I will send
>you an email with RMA# and instructions for shipping. You can ship the
>original memory back to PC memory upgrade to save some shipping
>cost, and then we will send you the replacement directly from US. If
>you have any other concerns, please feel free to let us know. We will
>take care of it for you.

At least OCZ still have their fantastic service, but I'll still have to pay the shipping back ...

From what I have heard there have not been any PC3500 Corsair modules made with the CH5s. I am no authority but I know I read that at Corsair HoH recently. Regardless, I hope you get whatever RAM you end up with working well.

Mike.

thank you specmike, I'll check that. For the moment I'm waiting for my mushkin PC3500 level2, they should arrive here at the end of the week, I'll tell you how it works. Unfortunately I'll have to wait a little bit for the replacement OCZ ones for my test.

And here's a proof ...

Even without that "proof" there's gotta be a reason why 100s and 100s of people with new Asus boards can't get the Corsair v1.2 to work.

How is that proof anyway? All I see is a closeup of a WinBond chip. Doesn't say it was from a Corsair v1.2 stick. For all I know, it could have come from a WinBond stick.. lmao!

There are many reasons why any given RAM won't work with a 1st generation chipset. However, there are not 100s and 100s of people that cannot get it to work. It just seems that way sometimes because a large % of people in a forum are there because they have some sort of issue.

Re: Corsair XMS3700 vs OCZ EL DDR PC-3700 GOLD

Hello:

I did a little testing of my own and having all four memory slots filled with memory does not product better results. Actually, it is the reverse. I contacted Kingston and they confirmed this as well. I populated the D875PBZ with four HyperX 256MB modules and my Sandra buffered scores droped to 4768 whereas using two HyperX 512MB modules yielded over 5000.

I never idicated that you were making things up. What I am saying is it depends on the manufacturer. With Kingston, that is not the case. It actually produces lessor results.

Were the 256mb modules single or double sided?
Also did you test Buffered or Unbuffered?

I was trying to say i tested and drew my own conclusions way before i saw the white papers...i was VERY supprised they backed up what i found.

Edit from your post i saw you used 4 single sided Vs 2 double sided.from my testing and the white papers.

4 double sided is fastest
2 double and 4 single is second..

I think we may see 2 doubles is actually a little faster than 4 singles...i will have to test.
