Angry Geil Esoteria and the ASUS Maximus Formula Issues!!!

HI

Anyone run into this problem? My new machine will not finish POST at random. It will do one of three things:

1. Blank screen with fans running
2. Freeze after detecting or counting RAM
3. Overclocking has failed! message [I am running at stock]

This happens with 0907 BiOS or 1004 BIOS. It several resets/off button pushes to boot into Windows. I have tried various timings to no avail. I have reset the CMOS and taken out the battery several times to no avail. Any ideas?

NBK

Re: Geil Esoteria and the ASUS Maximus Formula Issues!!!

Try running one stick of ram and bump up the memory voltage.

Thanks for responding SRTDodge05,

I tried what you said to no avail...

Geil tech support cannot figure this out either. Too bad i did not opt for a refund from newegg.com now i am dependent on RMA from Geil for the same RAM that simply will not work in my system.

Thanks

Re: Geil Esoteria and the ASUS Maximus Formula Issues!!!

what are your memory settings in bios?...vdimm tried?, northbridge voltage tried?...I know that setting Trfc to 54 has helped many OCZ users on x38 boards with ram at 1066 from reading OCZ forums when I was building my new comp recently...I can't seem to find what ICs Geil uses on those sticks...was not listed here DDR2 RAM List

Re: Geil Esoteria and the ASUS Maximus Formula Issues!!!

Trfc is your row refresh cycle that you seem to have set at 55 already....the maximus and my board the P5E both overvolt slightly btw...I think by about .05v...I have my vdimm at 1.9 on my OCZ ReaperX PC8000, but it's rated for less voltage than yours, so not "apples to apples". Looking at your settings has got me stumped tbh...they look ok ...you are certainly using enough voltage imo and your settings look loose enough to boot...and you've tried one stick at 800 speed to get there to no avail???? I will post back if I think of something, but this one looks a little thorny!

A lot of people have had good luck with some of the memory sticks from GSkill on these boards, and I love my OCZ reaperX...goofy heatspreaders and all!

Do you have another machine or know someone you can try the memory to make sure it works?

Try clearing your CMOS by pressing the button in the back. Also, your CPU Voltage should not be higher than 1.365V since you have a wolfdale processor in your system.

Thanks for responding Wingit,

Actually the trfc is set to 42 because 0907 BIOS will not go any higher. 1004 BIOS will go to 55.

The P5E has this issue with all but the latest bios as well, but interestingly, when I left trfc on auto and checked my settings from windows with memset I found that auto had set it at 46....memset can also set individual settings from windows, but I tend to eschew such devices, so it iis more of an informational tool for me.

Don't know if you use this utility... "memset", but it can be helpful when exploring memory settings, as always with any utility...use at your own risk Tweakers.fr
