HDD crash?

When I woke up this morning my computer was stuck at the bootup screen saying "boot from disk failure! please insert disk and press enter!"

My computer was also making a strange beeping noise. It would be a loud buzzing noise, then it would stop, and it kept going.

My HDD is the first on the boot sequence and whenever I restart it says please insert disk. So I'm assuming it's not reading my HDD and skipping to boot from disk?

Please help!

Also, this HDD is only 5 months old, and yes, I did take it out and clean it.

Re: HDD crash?

You need to provide more info about your system if you want more .

But that sounds to me like your HD has failed.

You need to check your PS and switch out your mem. if possible. Also try resetting bios to default.

Re: HDD crash?

You need to put information to what hardware you have.like cpu, hard drive, power supply, motherboard etc. Then you need to state what operating system you have.Any other info to what you were or have done before the problem happend would help also.Other wise no one can really help. It's like saying my car won't start please help.

You say you took the hard drive out to clean it.Well maybe when you put it back in you didn't get one of the cables in all the way.

Re: HDD crash?

Has it been exposed to heat or high temperatures or have you dropped it at all?

Re: HDD crash?

If the drive is making a click-click-click noise it's probably toast..
If it isn't making a huge racket try a new sata cable first off.
The beeping your hearing is likely the bios reporting an error, your motherboard documentation will explain what the beep codes mean..
If you don't have the manual on hand you can download it from the gigabyte site.

Re: HDD crash?

First see if the Motherboard is recognizing the drive:
Go into bios and see if it is listed.
If it is, then you know you have it powered up and data cabled,
and your problem is software (operating system related)

If the drive is not listed in bios,
then you have a physical problem...(hardware)
either bad drive,
bad cable
bad sata plug
bad data cable connection to drive
bad data cable connection to Motherboard
bad power connection to drive
bad bios parameters

Re: HDD crash?

I had this problem and did the same thing the last poster was saying to do...Mine was operating system related, so you will find the place where the problem lies.

Re: HDD crash?

When you removed the HDD to clean it did you unplug the cable from the HD or the MB ? Either way make sure it is not upside down and forced in slightly to the point that its holding but not really connected. Same with power plug.

Re: HDD crash?

It sounds like a manufactures defect... I think you should try to return it.

Re: HDD crash?

I'm not sure how to tell if it's listed in BIOS (sorry guys, i'm awful with computers!)

I removed the cable from the HDD when I cleaned it, and it's positioning is fine I believe.

Again, the noise it's making is like: bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, pause, bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, pause, bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, pause etc.

Also, I have a pirated version of windows, could this be causing the problem?
