2G may be hard to OC, regardless. What are the Vdimm options with that board? The 4 x 512 setup is a bit more flexible than 2 x 1G, in terms of your options for sticks.

As I am not running the board yet im not sure of the settings. It seems to be a popular board right now. here is the homepage for it.

I would not be against running 4 sticks of 512 if i could get higher speeds out of it. I am not as concerned about tight timings as I am overclocking the CPU.

If you're after speed rather than 2-2-2 timings, 4 x 512 will prolly be better. At least it will with the 1G sticks I've seen.

If you can afford it, that'd be my guess. Even dropping down to slower sticks would be okay if it was a budget issue. Better than 2 x 1G @ pc3200 or 3500 with 2-2-2-5. You won't get any of those above 220FSB, tops.

These Patriot sticks have gotten pretty decent reviews. If I wasn't exchanging some 2 x 1G OCZ stuff, I'd give these a shot. But, lots of alternatives out there. What's the budget?

most likely will have to use 2T timings for the ram with that much, but that only affects the performance in benchmarks.

and i haven't tried the board yet, mine will be here tomorrow! got my 2x512mb of Corsair 4400c25's today.

how high are you hoping to take the ram? most PC3200 TCCD ram make it to at least 275mhz

Yup, the Pats are 3200 but reviews of the XBLKs generally cite 250FSB or better, with loosened timings. If you can afford 4200, go for it. But if not, there are other options available.

from the reviews i have read, the 4400+ seems like a pretty good overclocker.

I dont have an exact expectation for the chip as I am sure it will do better that my 3.0c at stock for most of my uses. I guess if i could get it to 275, I would be pretty happy. I am using an Exos cooler so i should be able to cool the cpu enough to get some decent speed.

Those are supposed to be pretty good. I personally like OCZ a lot, although I've had some trouble recently. (I woulda tried them, but at four sticks I'd have no room for the Vdimm booster.) And, the nice thing about Newegg (as opposed to somebody like Monarch), is that you can always return them if you want, as long as you're willing to take the restocking hit.
