memory cooling question.

if i get some new ram and a booster i know i will need some better cooling on it. my question is will an 80mm case fan on my side panel be good enough, or do i need something closer to the ram? the fan is blowing directly in on the ram right now, but it isnt real close.

Depends on your case flow and fan power. I use a 120mm Panaflo blowing across my RAM and MOSFETS up towards the blowhole. I also have an 80mm blowhole fan to get that hot air outta there asap. It works very well, the air coming out of the top is quite warm. Dropped my PWMIC temps from 70C to 35C with that fan

If your cooling on the RAM isn't cutting it, you will see instability pretty quick above 3v and will know to add more cooling.

Looks interesting, that's for sure. I use a Zalman fan bracket attached to the rear edge of my 5.25 drive cage. It puts the fan right over the slots and about 4 inches above. That's enough space for the airflow to diffuse and hit the entire bank of DIMMs.

I've never mounted a fan right on the sticks, so I dunno if that creates some dead spots. If so, I doubt it has any ill effect. But the way you picture is definitely easier.

What size fan are you using? The advantage of something bigger than in the picture (is that a 60?) is that it also blows on some of the other components.

If you're not worried about looks, you could easily throw a bracket together out of something from Lowe's or Home Depot.

The Booster will get much hotter than the RAM. It has a set of heatsinks on it, for a very good reason. Also, make sure the 5v rail is as close to 5 volts as possible. If that rail is too low or too high, the readings on the Booster will not be accurate.

I have tried many RAM cooling methods as you can see in my H20 cooling thread here but have ended up using a simple zip tie method. I just attached a 120mm angling up to clear the hot air from RAM and MOFSETS and push it up through blowhole.

Sorry for the crap pic, my camera doesnt like UV lights.
