What kind of Mem scores are you guys getting in Sisoft Sandra? I have 800E@1ghz, 125mhz FSB with 256meg of PC150 and am scoring I think thats a bit low, anyone else with a FSB around mine have some mem scores that i can compare to?

Thumbs down

Well, im not really sure.....

My system below yields: 406-ALU / 477-FPU
---------------------------------------------------------
(1)

PIII933EB @ 938Mhz
256mb Mushkin_R2 @ 133Mhz / 2-2-2 / 5,7
CUSL2 @ 133:33:33
V5500
Fireport40 SCSI3
-WIN98SE-
---------------------------------------------------------

Your configuration yields: 359-ALU / 400-FPU
---------------------------------------------------------
(2)

pIII 800E@1ghz
125/125/41
256meg PC150 CAS2 2,2,2 5/7
-Win2000-
---------------------------------------------------------

Without going into too many details...

1. Your FSB is slower, this would proportionally cause your memory bandwith to be less than the comparison system (1).

2. Your CPU clock is faster than the comparison system (1). This would cause a proportional increase of memory bandwith in relation to the comparison system (1).

3. Generally, WIN98 has better memory performance compared to 2K, or so everyones been saying. Ive never tested my current system's (1) memory performance under 2K.

4. Memory component tolerances, and physical speed should be disregarded as these tend to be subtle and vary slightly from brand to brand, unless cheap generic sticks are being used.

5. BIOS revisions can alter memory bandwith
performance. Some here have noticed slight improvements in memory throughput with different BIOS revisions.

6. Overclocking will alter the operating frequencies of all components connected to the sytem, usualy past component standards. This can cause a component to perform faster or slower.

SO??

If i understand correctly,

Lower FSBs will reduce memory bandwith.
Higher CPU speeds will increase memory bandwith.
Windows 98 has better memory performance than 2K
Component tolerances and physical differences should be disregarded as component performance variences would be minimal.

The same MainBoard is being used, therefore memory bandwith capibilities and limits of the system should be identical, this assuming of course that the same BIOS revision is being used.

Overclocking causes stress to components altering performance characteristics, this contributing to overall system performance.

So what?

Well im not really sure, but if your MEM-FPU mark was 74 mb/s slower it could be because your running your ram at a slower FSB, but then again your clock speed is almost 66MHZ faster. Problem is im not really sure how much of a MEM bandwith increase 66Mhz will give. On top of that your running 2K and not WIN98. So that would drop memory performance a bit.

If my system is only averging a 60MB/s differance (ALU & FPU ) considering all of the variables above, and that your only gain over my current system is CPU Cycles/sec, then i would accept your current memory performance as a valid result, but im only goin on what I know. Similar system comparison would greater simplifly this issue.

Defrag, your memory scores are lower than what it shold be.

Have you ever read about the memory degradation of CUSL2 when using FSB higher than 140? I know that you will probably say am I blind not to see your FSB as 125!!!

1) When using 133/133/33 setting CUSL2 causes memory degradation and the AGP4X to 2X above FSB 140 (note that AGP=70 and PCI=35 @FSB140). This forced limitation comes from the BIOS versions later than 1001.a

Since your FSB is 125 you must be having 100/100/33 setting from the BIOS and if you look at your FCI Bus its at 41 and your AGP at 83 you also have passed the limitation at which ASUS implement this feature of lowering the bandwidth.

I will send you the fix when i go back home.

Unhappy

Mine are 394/450(SUCKS), 700@1015
2-3-2 7/9 I have to run my memory at these settings with a fsb of 135 or higher. My memory is 128 Mushkin rev2, and 128 cas2 Corsair.

AspenHusker,

All you need to do is add a line like the following to your c:\autoexec.bat file:

c:\utils\stuffpcr\stuffpcr c:\utils\stuffpcr\815.bin

If you don't have an autoexec.bat just create one with Notepad. This line implies that I have unzipped stuffpcr.com and 815.bin into a C:\utils\stuffpcr directory. Sorry that the instruction that I sent you were the ones I was sent. There is a lot more info in them then you may have wanted.

mode is correct the fix should probably be renamed the AGP 70 fix that is the magic number for bios to back off the mem throttle and AGP settings.....the fix will work for you no matter what it's called...hehehe
By the way I'm getting 453/521 @ 147fsb...

This is borrowed from "bmg" of Australia. I thank him for supplying me with the info and .bin files.

I've got both the memory fix and agp 4x working now using stuffpcr. As has
been noted, changing agp to 4x doesn't work with wcredit or wcrset. Since
stuffpcr is executed from autoexec.bat before windows starts up, it works
ok for setting agp.
Get stuffpcr at:
http://people.mn.mediaone.net/cyberz...s/stuffpcr.zip

If you want to make your own .bin file:

Get the Hex Workshop hex editer at: http://www.bpsoft.com
Using the hex editor create a binary file (I called it 815.bin) and input
the following:
50 08 44 73 38 A0 B0 01 80 A8 07 14 A4 07 07
(Note: In Hex Workshop select Options/Preferences and set "Group by" to 8
bit.)
The first 6 bytes do the memory config tweak and the last 9 take care of
agp 4x.

If you would like me to email you the .bin, email me and I'll be happy to send it along.

I put stuffpcr and 815.bin into c:\stuffpcr and then added this to my
autoexec.bat:
c:\stuffpcr\stuffpcr c:\stuffpcr\815.bin
Make sure you back up your original autoexec.bat file and have a dos boot disk available so you can recover if you've made a mistake in your bin file.
