I am considering buying another 256mb's of RAM and I need your expert opinions. I currently have a P!!! 700e running at 933 @ 133FSB. My current 256mb of Kingston ValueRAM runs OK at 222 5,7. I guess I got lucky by getting two sticks with Infineon (since they change chips from time to time). My current 256mb is comprised of two 128mb double sided sticks, which Im taking one out to put in my wife's computer. Which 256 mb memory would be the best upgrade for me: mushkin rev 1.5 or Crucial CT32M64S4D7E??? (Both are rated at CAS2) I don't have the budget to throw down the cash for rev2 Mushkin (just so you guys know). Also, am I going to have problems with pairing double-sided with single-sided? What are the rules to this on the CUSL2? Thanks for you help.

Intel says their chip set will take 4 banks of 133 memory or 6 banks of 100 memory. Each bank is one side of a memory stick or module. In your case pairing Infineon with none Infineon I would not do. Buy another stick of same memory if its Infineon or another brand with Infineon chips on it. I don't think Mushkin 1.5 has Infineon on it. Check out their Web site. Mushkin rev2 is not that much more. If it was me I would save for a 256 rev2 stick. Use what you have till you can get the Mushkin. I'm a guy of little means and I saved for the Mushkin memory. It was then around $250. a stick for the 256. I even had to wait for a sale. Mushkin had a sale, dropped price to $200. and free shipping. Thats when I bought mine. It was a great investment for my computer. As I HAVE NO MEMORY PROBLEMS, PERIOD!!!

The picture that Mushkin has on its website for the rev 1.5 is infineon chips. It's the 256mb 222 rated memory on special for $99. Do you think this would work with what i have?

My best guess would be yes. As it has the Infineon chips.

Found out that the guy at Radified User's guide for the Asus CUSL2 is using 2x128MB Mushkin Rev1.5. I just quote what he says:
System: CPU = P3-700 (cB0, retail) @938 (1.80v). 2x128 Mushkin rev 1.5 PC133 (2-2-2, 7/9T, cannot get 5/7T).
Info here: http://radified.com/Misc/cusl2.htm

So I guess he's running at fsb 134. The 128MB rev1.5 has Mosel Vitelic chips, whereas the 256MB rev1.5 has Infineon chips

I would go for 1 stick Mushkin 256MB Rev2 just as SKULL recommends. I got mine for $167 and it was sent within USA by Fedex 2 days for FREE. Believe it, after installing 256MB rev2, mine is running very stable @fsb 160 (800EB@960) CAS 2-2-2 7-9 Strong & temperature on IPanel drops by 3 C (sometimes 4 C) on iddle (but not 100% idele, still running IE 5.5) with the same HSF. I guess the previous SDRAM (samsung chipsets) was pushed too far.

To add info: The i815(e) chipset based motherboards only officially support "a maximum of 2 double sided or 3 single sided DIMMs when the SDRAM interface is operating at 133MHz. Upon detection that additional rows are populated beyond these configurations, the BIOS must downshift the SDRAM clocks to 100MHz through a 2-wire interface of the system clock generator.". This is quoted from page 18 of the Intel i815 chipset datasheet available

Check out this link. It has Post from Mushkin tech support (permission from Bill Mushkin)

Question

You're my MAN Skull. Do you have any suggestion to make mine running @1000 ? I am running WinME, Kanie Hedgehog + Delta 38 CFM, BIOS 1006A, grounded HSF as per your info. I am getting to used with Delta sound now, but still trying to upgrade with Panaflo 50 CFM

Thanks for all the input guys. I really appreciate it. I think Im going to go for the 256mb of rev 1.5 because that is all I can really afford. It seems that it will do cas2 at 133, which is all I really need right now. I would love to get the rev2, but I couldnt warrant another $70....mainly because the wife wouldnt understand and I probably couldnt get it past her =) . Question, will the rev2 (running cas2) work any faster or perform any better than the rev1.5 (running cas2) ? Keep in mind that I need to pair this with my current infineon memory which is what I explained above.

It shouldn't be any different at it's rated speed cas2 is cas2 the rev2 and rev3 shine at being able to continue to use those strobes at high FSB's....I know the deal with the little woman, I am always tryin' to beat the UPS dude and my wife home...hehehe
