| Hey guys, I just set up a Black Pearl with 1.006 beta (?) BIOS. It's a used motherboard I picked up here in Japan. I am using one stick 512 MB KingMax PC-150. It shows up as 512 MB fine on the computer! I got a 600E up to 148 FSB 2-2-2 with it, but have to test the 3D stability (still have to install video drivers). |

| And the debate goes on: The fact is Intel never designed the i815E/EP chipset to get compatible with one stick of 512MB of memory. If you do get it working you are lucky. That is it, lucky. Check out the information provided in this thread: http://www.asusboards.com/forums/sho...threadid=10754

| I know this stick won't work on a BE6-II Ver. 2.0 at 512 MB as it's only recognized as 256 MB, due to the 440BX limitation. I was going to return this KingMax PC-150 as it won't run 150 2-2-2 on the BE6-II, but I found it will run up to 150 2-2-2 on a P3V4X and Black Pearl. Now since it works at 512 MB on a CUSL I'd better keep it. This is the latest revision KingMax module and they had a lot of problems with motherboard compatibility previously so maybe they fixed something in a big way. |

| Did you try your two 256 dimms in the other slots? I also have two 256 dimms and they were working fine until today. I had a blue screen and was unable to reboot. I had long beeps, that according to the amnual indicates ram problem. After some tests i managed to get it all back in working order by using slots 2 and 3. Slot 1 is dead. I even tried to install 3 dimms (128 Mb ea) on the thre slots but only 256 Mb were recognized. Of course the dimm in slot 1 was not recognized. i believe this might be a software problem, or maybe not, but i would love to know. Still, try to move your two 256 dimms to slots 2 and 3 and they might work. The brand, the price... forget it. It must work with two 256 Mb dimms! Try one at a time, in the same slot and see if they both are recognized. If they are, then they are ok. Then install both... only one is recognized, move one of them to another slot and always use the slot that you know that works. Maybe you have slots 1 and 3. Asus is a funny motherboard.

| Infinite-e, I think Hai's problem has to do with 1 stick of 512 MB. What's interesting is I had to return the Black Pearl board I had because it had a bad USB port. So I picked up a used CUSL with audio instead (Rev. 1.02, Taiwan made board) . I figured, well, maybe the BP was latest CUSL-C revision 1.04 and had an updated 815EP chipset on it so I might not have as good luck with the CUSL. Well, I got it up and running last night and my one stick of KingMax PC-150 is seen as 512 MB! No complaints here. I currently have a 600E up to 960 (160 FSB), vcore at 1.75, and temps at 28/34 C (idle/stress) with air cooling. The CUSL is neat since it can drop the SDRAM down to 120 mhz 2-2-2. With CPU/ram running at same speed, the highest I could do was 148 2-2-2. |

| Yes, you're right. His problem is with a single 512 Mb stick. Certainly a malfunction on one of the sides of the ram stick. My problem is with a non-functioning ram slot... that, by the way, is not working again, even after the BIOS 1006 reinstall. Thank's for mentioning.

| You might try setting the voltage jumper to the low setting. I was having a similar problem on a CUSL2-C with a 256MB stick. It would only recognize 128MB when I overclocked past 148MHz on the FSB. Dropped the memory voltage setting and everything works great. |

| You know, This could all be a heat related problem! Have any of you removed the "greenie"? There is usually nothing under it. So most people here remove it, and apply AS2 or similar to the north bridge chip, replace the sink and add a fan! Cools the HB down to let you OC higher! Thus evaccaro, as you reduced the voltage, you lowered the heat factor on the NB! Try cooling it a little! I have sinks in ALL the hot spots shown in HERE!! This may cure your heat problems!! |

| Today I lost total confidence in using CUSL2-C for 512M RAM. I bought a new 256M Hyundai Double-sided PC133 SDRAM and install next to the existing 256M Hyundai Double-sided PC133 SDRAM but cannot boot up my Windows XP. I have verified that the new 256M SDRAM is working properly by leaving it to run alone in Slot 2. I have tried the following configurations but all failed. Slot 1 & 2, 2 & 3, 1 & 3 Bios versoin 1009. I gave up and don't want to waste anymore time on playing around to get it work at 512M RAM. In some old days, I also failed to install 512M RAM from 2 pieces of 128M and 1 piece of 256M...... So bad ................... If you have any idea, please kindly alert me at pf97@mail.hongkong.com Thanks a lot !!! |

| It seems to be more of a problem with 2-256 MB sticks, looks like. And also maybe an XP problem? A guy on another forum is having the same problem with the TUSL. 2-256 MB sticks are only recognized as 256 MB by XP. I thought the 815EP chipset (or whatever it is) fixed the problem? Could also be the brand of ram. |
