My 512 Mb ram shows only 256 on CUSL-2C

Hi all.
I am new here, Pls help me. my 512 Ram only shows 256 Mb on CUSL2C ( Bios 1009)

I see on manual that it supports 512 mbram ( double sites)

My 512 ram is memtech. I see " 64x4" on Ram , what is it ?
HOw can I check if my 512 ram is single or double.?

Pls help...

The Intel i815 chipset that the CUSL2 Series uses does not support a single 512MB DIMM. It supports up to 512MB by using either (2)X256MB or (1)X256MB and (2)X128MB. I am not aware of any fix for this unfortunately.

As for what 64x4 means:
This refers to the density of the memory chips. Memory manufacturers use this to make sure they use the correct chips. To figure out the capacity, you use the equation:

(64*4)/8*16=512MB

Therefore, you have a double-sided DIMM

Thanks for yor help but I think I do not agree with you.

On the CUSL-2c Manual, it said that CUSL-2C support 1 dim in double sides 512 Mb Ram but total is 512 mb maxium

( It can support total 512 Mb in 3 dim slots )

It support 1 modun 512 mb but must be double sides.

Any corrections if I am wrong

OK, you do not have to agree. But the fact remains...It doesn't work. Things to try in case I am wrong:

1. Try DIMM in another machine
2. Try the DIMM in a different slot
3. Flash BIOS to latest BETA version

First thing is to try the DIMM in another machine (preferably not i815, pertinant to my hypothesis) to make sure it is not defective. If it is not, then try it in another DIMM slot. If it still doesn't work, you can try updating to the latest version BIOS (v1012b4).

That's all I can think of for now. Anyone else have any input?

The Latest BIOS can be found at: ftp://ftp.asuscom.de/pub/ASUSCOM/BIO...hipset/i815ep/. Click on CUSL2-C, and choose the version that is approapriate for your hardware. As always with BIOS flashing...BE CAREFUL!

The manual does say that this motherboard accepts a double side single 512mb stick of ram. The problem may be the quality of the ram you are using. The CUSL2 series motherboards are very particular about the quality of the memory. Cheap generic ram often fails or doesn't work correctly in this mobo.
I run 512 mb, but it's 2 sticks of 256mb Mushkin.

Because I have 3 dim 128 installed at total 384.

then change to 2 dim 256 at total 512.

now change 512 but only show 256.

I asked Asus for their support without any answer.

Let wait till it support

Does a friend have another stick of 512MB memory you can borrow? Try this one inplace of yours, and see if it can recognize it. If it can, it's the memory.

I stand corrected on the issue. I was always under the impression that you could not run a single stick of 512MB memory. But i guess if it is double sided, the CUSL2-C just views it as (2) 256MB DIMMS.

Today I try the 512 Dim stick with Pentium 4 mainboard Intel 845 chipset, It work good. show all memory of 512.

I think problem here belong to Asus.

They really do not give support to their customer. I sent them some email regarding this problem but the reponse is silent.

Any ideal?

How about this,

Have you set the BIOS to read SPD? Or Manual and select 3-3-3,7/9, Normal. Different slot? SOME people can make 512 work and some cannot

I have try all.

in 3 slots,, in bios set at normal, strong,..... 3, 3, 7,9....

But it is still a problem of CUSL2C

I really dont know what to do now
