Need to run 2gb which is faster on AMD64

i have to run 2gb on an amd64 939 system. does anyone know what is faster.

2 x 1gb will let the system run in 1T but won't overclock so much

or

4 x 512mb will let the system oc more but must run in 2T

any thoughts..

out of curiosity, which memory are you planning on using? Anantech reports that the Crucial Ballistix are a great match for the A64. Unfortunately, the max size stick is 512M, and there are no kits.

Check out the review here.

i just ordered 2x1gb corsair. they are only 40 more then the generic brands from monarch...we'll se how how i can push them, hope they can run in 1T mode.....i'll be happy if they can run 220 so i can bump up my 3500+ a bid. solidworks is a memory hog, and i constantly run out of memory on my 1gb workstation.....

hey, I have 2 gb (2 x 1gb) it works really well. I have the Kingston HyperX model. i have it overclocked all the way and it runs smoothly. I play video games which can also be memory hogs. Expecially games like doom 3 and farcry. I have never tried on a 1 gb machine so I cant really compare it but i love having 2 gb. It lets all of my apps run smoothly. I think the 2 x 1gb is better because it also leaves room for upgrade if you have more slots.

I got Mushkin blue 4x512 which is running on outpost for about $62 a pop.
Right now with 3.2v all 4 of them are running fine 2-2-2-5 232mhz or so 1T with winchester (the crappy memory controller yeah).
Had to step down from 265mhz or so of 2-2-2-5 BH5 1gig but good trade off on actual usuage and cheap too.
All 4 sticks individually did better than 240mhz 2-2-2-5 3.2v
For under $280 (granted you are in S. Cali) after tax and shipping, I think this memory is one hell of deal for 2 gig... (and upcoming venice makes it better investment with supposedly better memory controller)

I use OCZ's 3200 1 gig sticks. It made a big diff for some games (EQ2), and I can multi task better ( have 2 or 3 games running at the same time now). I'm running at 230 HTT, LDT at 5x, and 3,3,3,7 1T. Here is a mem bench. Check your mobo maker for compat issues with the mem you are looking at .

If traditional wisdom applies, 2 x 1gb should be the best overall combo. Just curious, why do you "need" 2gb of RAM?

Mike.
