OCZ EL

Hyperspeed Technology and Specific OCZ EL (Enhanced Latency) ICs

We have read it over and over, OCZ is using their own Enhanced Latency 4 ns memory chips. Truth is that OCZ does not manufacture memory chips, rather, the original markings are sanded off (you can see the scratchmarks from the beltsander towards the left and right edges) are blasted off using a CO2 laser and the discreets are then laser-remarked to sport the OCZ label with the -40 (4 ns) rating. It takes a flashlight shining obliquely on the surface, though, to bring out the original markings: K4H280838E-TCB3 where

K4: Samsung
H: DDR
28: 128 Mbit component density
08: 8 bit width
3: 4 internal banks
8: SSTL (2.5V)
E: sixth generation DDR
T: TSOP
C: normal temperature range
B3: DDR333, CL2.5
This is quite interesting, by blasting off the top layer of the package and remarking the components, OCZ is capable of achieving a 50% performance increase. Well, we will see about that.. Update: According to OCZ, removing part of the encapsulant allows better thermal dissipation which sort of makes sense.

... modules may not allow latency faster than 2-3-6-3, regardless of the module frequency .... very true, details coming up soon.

My next memory will be Samsung and I will select my own heatsinks. The ram game. (Special Select and hand tested premium moduals) now hi performance sanding

you also missed the part of the review where ocz whooped serious butt.

" Increasing CAS latency to 2.5 allowed us to push the DIMMs up to 250 MHz at 2.5:3:3 and 255 MHz at 2.5:4:4. "

good luck running DDR510 @ 2.5 with off the shelf samsung ,
let alone booting at CL 2 466Mhz

On a side note : anyone who wants to know what die were using for any product simply needs to email me

If the price is good, not necessery cheaper, and the modules I want are available, Crucial, is always my 1st choise.

Althought I know those are engineering samples (but this goes for everyone, yes?), take a look here: http://www.tweaktown.com/document.ph...d=486&dPage=15

I have used "true" Samsung, OCZ, Corsaire XMS and Kingston HyperX... in that order. The highest oc'ing I have been able to do to date is with the HyperX. The OCZ and Corsaire ( I had a 512 stick of PC 3500 of each ) came in a very close second.

I think I am going to wait for the dual channel DDR 2 before I buy new memory. It looks like the memory assemblers are taking 333MHz memory and modding voltage. Must be a better way to increase memory speed, like maybe a memory die that is made to run at the speed used.

Seoul, Korea, July 29, 2003–Hynix Semiconductor Inc. (Hynix,www.hynix.com), announced today it has developed a 500MHz 256Mbit DDR SDRAM and will begin its full-scale volume production in August 2003.

The newly introduced DDR500, a high-performance PC main memory device, runs at 500MHz and will be available in FBGA, TSOP or QFP package. The DDR500 product line up is aimed towards the gaming market enthusiasts who tend to require higher frequencies and system performance.

The main memory DDR500 follows the introduction a 500MHz graphic memory last year and will be manufactured using the company’s Prime Chip 0.13-micron process technology.

Currently, the main memory DRAM market is experiencing a rapid transition in demand from DDR266 to DDR333/400. Hynix expects the DDR500 to demand a 10-20% premium relative to DDR400 due to limited supply.

Hynix aims to continue to maintain and expand its leadership position in the high-performance PC, workstation and computer game consol markets, requiring ultra high-speed memory products. Hynix is dedicated to maintaining its competitive edge in the high-speed memory market through continuous development of ultra high-speed devices.

The poll is coming out pretty much as expected except I would have thought that there would have been more Mushkin PC3500 Black 222 Hi Performance Level II. I guess people don't know that Mushkin got the bh-5 chips in again for them.
