New Rev2 OCZ PC3700 Gold

Well, I had an order on hold for the PC3700 Gold rev1 rated at CL2-3-3-7 and the store contacted me and told me that rev2 was coming next week and I needed to wait to get my order.

After looking at this page:
http://www.ocztechnology.com/aboutocz/press/2003/76

I see the rev2 is rated CL 2.5-3-3-7. Which is the same rating ast norma PC3700 EL that cost A LOT LESS.

so is OCZ having problem getting fast ram at CL2 ? cos with this rev2, I don't see why I should spend more money on Gold while EL have the same rating !

strange move by OCZ...

I have seen this thread this week

but if you look official OCZ page, you will see you get CL 2.5 insted of CL2 but gain 0.5V (2.7 vs 2.75).

I don't think it's a wise choice right now.. at least not for me..

I will now make some call to find rev1 somewhere in canada

I told all you guys weeks ago the rev1 3700gold was discontinued. The sammy chips we used on those modules are just no longer available.

The new rev2 is slightly slower in the fact it can't run cas2 as high yes! but it also runs DDR500 at a much lower voltage and is available in 512mb modules.

2.5-3-3-8 at ddr500 is still pretty damn fast.I found cas3 faster though.3-3-3-8.

Also the 3700EL/premier will NOT clock as good with low voltage as this will.If you want to chance the premier then please do.

The impact cas latency has on intel boards is next to nothing. If the cas had changed from 2-3 it's not a big deal. I'll post some benchmarks tmrw if you want proof

Disappointing, my OCZ does 2-3-3-5 at ddr500, benchs at ddr508 2-3-3-5 with a 2.85 vdimm. 2.5-3-3-8 is SLOW!

Quick Question for BigToe

Is there an easy way to know if a stick is Rev1 ou Rev2 ? is it on the sticker ?

Just to be sure since Rev2 seam to be lower priced on most store now (which make it a best value)

The rev2 says 3700rev2 on the sticker on the modules.

If we could still get the samsung IC's used for the rev1 we would.Point is we can't, so we had to discontinue it.

While the rev2 is slightly slower it does clock VERY well with 2.7vdimm so NO volt mods will be needed to get 3-3 timings at ddr500.These timings are much more important than cas latency at 250fsb.
