Noob Memory Question

Im putting together a new system in the next couple of weeks (a8n sli with AMD x2 3800+) and I was trying to firgure what memory to use. I dont intend to do any overclocking in the near future so dual channel ddr400 will do just fine.

I went to the corsair website however and this is where I became confused...It seems all their ram has latency values...I was under the impression that this was something you set in the bios not something that comes implemented in the memory...is this a default setting and something that can be changed? How would one know what latency of ram to get if they are putting together a system for the 1st time and had nothing to base the values off of?

Thanks!

Performance wise, the lower the latency and timings the better, i.e. 2-2-2-5 is better than 2.5-4-4-7 at the same speed. The rated timings on the RAM is what the RAM is capable of running, however you will have to set it in the BIOS.

If you are not OCing, dont spend alot on RAM, get some value stuff. The extra $$ usually translates to OCing ability.
