not sure about which DDR 2 to use with a P4

Just building a PC for sister main parts so far i've ordered are

Intel Pentium 4 630 Socket 775 2MB 800FSB

and a gigabyte MB based on a Intel 945G chipset

main purpose she has is internet and general stuff and she thinking of editing video on it, hense the P4. I'm a little lost regarding the memory, getting it from Cruical, but there are 3 to choose from regarding speeds 667/533/400 all are DDR2.

Now i presume the 667 is the best, info below

DDR2 PC2-5300 • CL=5 • UNBUFFERED • NON-ECC • DDR2-667 • 1.8V

but its quite a bit more expensive, thing is do i need it with the CPU its going with.

As on my Asus P4C800-E my memory is 400FSB and i have a 800FSB CPU
Do you still match memory with the processor these days, is it the case the memory will default to whatever the CPU runs at, so i might as well get 400 speed?

What's important is to read the motherboard's native memory speed. If it's 667mhz, just get it as it works the best and designed for it. No fuss.

With the newer P4's it's best to run DDR2 with them, especially the 2MB cache ones. They're designed for it. Like the 533mhz P4s were designed for RDRAM, while the 800mhz were designed for DDR.

Since this is for Sis and you'll be doing the work, just make it simple on yourself in the long run -- run stock. It'll do her fine, and you don't have to be the monthly janitor....."My computer is on the blitz. Can you fix it, please?". :/

thanks DeusExMachina, the motherboard runs all the following memory667/533/400, the CPU is running at 800FSB, so im guessing go with 400FSB memory? although that is the slowest.

Wondering if there is any benefit going with the 667 memory as its quite a bit more money.

just giving this post a bump, rest of my parts have come and im on with the build, still not sure about what memory is best to order.

667mhz and chose your favorite DDR2 manufacturer: Crucial - Corsair - OCZ - Mushkin, etc.

For Sis, 5-5-5-5 timing would do, since it doesn't seem she'll be needing to O/C her rig. If you want resell value, go with 4-4-4-4 timing. No less than 2x512MB.
