OCZ Value Pro 2 GB

Which of these would be better? I see that one is supposedly "dual-channel" optimised, but otherwise is there any difference?

2 x 1 GB OCZ Value Pro:

or

1 x 2GB (2x1) Dual Channel Value Pro Kit:

They don't seem to be technically different, and buying them separately will be cheaper.

Edit: Oh wait, I'm not sure whether the first link is 2 512 MB sticks or 1 1GB. I don't overclock or benchmark so will there be a noticable performance loss either way?

Better to get the kit, as they're usually paired from the same batch (better O/C advantage). Memory is terrible on stability, let alone O/Cing when they're not matched. Buy in singles if the memory matches your current set, but not piecemeal.

Well I have no intention to overclock but if it'll probably get me better stability I'm all for the kit. Time to save up, then.

Additionally, "IF" you have problems running an unmatched pair in dual channel, the memory company is not responsible for guaranteeing stability. If you buy the prematched pairs, that insures that they have been tested in and guaranteed for dual channel operation.

As DXM pointed out, modern MOBOs are VERY picky about memory being matched. It's entirely possible to buy single DIMMs that have the same part number yet are a different revision (ie - made with different ICs or on different PCBs, etc). Then, you have a mismatched pair.

Mike.
