| OCZ gets my vote, amazing PC2-5400 Gold XTC sticks, rock solid o/cing in my Conroe rig.... but... One question (i posted in the AMD chipset forum, but you guys with RAM might know more about this): I got an ASUS M2NPV-VM board for my friend, but the OCZ PC2-4200 Gold non-XTCs don't work in it. I tried putting my XTCs from my P5WDH in, and they worked flawlessly. Not to mention my P5WDH also took the 4200s... without a hitch, o/c'd to 5400 at 4-4-4-12 timings. I also tried manually setting the 4200s in BIOS at 4-4-4-12 for PC2-4200 DDR2-533 speeds... but still no POST... only beeping. The memory isn't DOA, so I'm wondering if I could get them to work in the AMD rig... as I've just bought the RAM before the huge price hike. Cheers! ![]()

| I'll admit, I'm biased. For those that don't know, I'm one of the admins of The House of Help, and within our forums is The Official Corsair Support Forum. My rigs currently use Corsair, and before that I've used Crucial (damn good and cheap). I agree that support is a valid point, as you want to know that you're not out $$$ if something does happen. Lifetime warranty by a company that'll back it up is nice. I've seen OCZ's support forums, and there's a bunch of good guys over there, so you're not really picking a bad choice regardless of which company you choose. Having said that, both companies could definitely learn some support tips from each other, without a doubt. Too bad no one listens to little ol' me lol! The only thing that clearly stands out in my head as a difference would be Corsair's system build logs. AFAIK, OCZ (or any other computer company that I can think of) has never done something like this before. Then again, I could be wrong.

| I voted Corsair, I've had great results from them. I've been quite impressed with them since I change motherboards often and the same sticks have been compatible.

| FWIW, "support" goes WAY beyond simply replacing memory if something fails. I have been involved with both companies on an internet level over the past 4 or so years. I'm certainly no employee but I know employees of both companies. Currently, I don't think you could go wrong with either brand from any standpoint, support, OCing, or otherwise. And, OCZ has certainly earned a MOST IMPROVED award over the past couple of years. However, the standards that many performance memory company's try to achieve were set by and maintained Corsair. My personal preference is Corsair although I have machines running both. If you search the internet you can find both fans and critics of both brands. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about either company. Google is your friend. Mike.

| i also think for people in the US support can be direct with corsair if need be. in other countries, at least in australia, as far as i know we'd have to deal with third party dealers. which i think could mean some blame shifting from their part to save on whatever costs are involved in sending RAM back to corsair etc.... i think.... (same as it would be easiest to live in singapore if you had major crateive labs issues) |
