| blurb_me: at 50h, all you're changing is bit 6 -- CLT (CPU Latency Timer) when you go from 04 to 44. It's just internal timing stuff, and won't affect your memory bandwidth scores (or, shouldn't). at 73h, you're messing with CPC. The difference from A8 to A0 is only the fourth bit (bit 11 -- CPC mask). If you're using PC133, you have to have this bit set (it says so in the spec). So leave it as A8. (CPC means Command Per Clock). Does this help at all? I pulled all this from the public Intel 82815 datasheet: http://developer.intel.com/design/ch...s/29068801.pdf EDIT: I fixed a mistake in what I said about 73h. Sorry. | I would leave it alone. I wouldn't change anything unless you have a very good idea of what it is you're changing (such as overriding conservative memory timings, etc). By leave it alone, I mean leave it at the default setting. Asus BIOS engineers know best about what to set -- they just have to go conservative with some things, such as memory timings. |

if instead of changing offset 73 to A8 changing it to A0 yields better performance...it's not great but a little better....anyone confirm it?

You're enabling command per clock (CPC) at PC133 when you change from A8 to A0. Command per clock improves performance slightly. However, the Intel 82815 datasheet says that if you're running in PC133 mode, you must set this bit -- meaning A8. They either didn't validate CPC at PC133, or they found a bug in it that forced them to tell people to disable it. Your guess is as good as mine. If it is stable, run with it.

The short answer is yes - if you can reach the PCI configuration space. For NT-based OSes it is quite a task, although it IS possible. Unfortunately I never used those OSes and do not know the exact software you'll need.

All you need to do the tweak in win2k is wpcredit and wpcrset for the tweaks you need the 815.pcr file too...wpcrset doesn't have a link on H.Oda's site, but if you check out Vector's ftp server it's in there

The easiest way is to flash the bios with bios tweak found here. http://www.x86-secret.com/i815twk.php This will fix it all, AGP 4X and memory band width! I run this bios and it fixed all those problems. It runs great on my machine.

Skull, I just downloaded the BIOS from x86 secret. It shows up as 1008tw.awd. Shouldn´t it be a .bin file for us to flash ? (i prefer to do it in DOS). Do I have to use the Windows Asus flasher for this ? ![]()

Mine showed up as 1008tw. I can't remember how I entered it @ the DOS prompt. I only flash in DOS, never have problems. Set system to defaults and go into dos and try it out. Really can't hurt anything, it just will not accept the flash if wrong! I tried opening up my 1008tw, but nothing. Wish I could remember. Anyway I'm running the 1008 tweaked bios with no problems. Ah, I REMEMBER ' Last edited by Skully : 05-29-2001 at 12:18 PM.
