| overclocking 4sticks wont work i've got a question: when i use my two sticks of 256Geil PC4200, i can overclock up to fsb1016, for a core speed of 3.046; when i switch to my two sticks of ocz500 (2x1g), i can overclock at 1000 (250). but when i put all four sticks in, i can only do 880 (220), for a 2.64....am i missing something (obviously i am).

| Dude you're probably not going to get anywhere by trying to do it all at the same time.Put everything back to default on the ram.Four sticks don't like to overclock as well as two sticks.Someone else can walk you through the overclock. All I'm going to say is."Overclock in baby steps".You need to know what the stable processor speed is.Then you need to know what the ram speed limits are for 4 sticks of ram.Don't slap a bunch of voltage in there because you can't get it work right.I'm sure you'll get it right.Good Luck. edited

| DDR1 stock voltage was 2.6-2.7v so its not that bad. Set your fsb back to where you had it before you added the other 2 sticks of ram and set the speed in the bios to 333. |

| If you can run the fsb you want when the memory is set to 333 and its stable then you mite have a chip that cant run at a high speed. Download memtest to check your memory out you could have a bad or weak stick. |

| well, 333 (actually 320) didnt do much...i could get it to post at fsb250 (1000), but then it just locked up. (figured out 320 is 5:4 -- duh). so i tried 230 and no go, and 220 seems to be all i can get. so i think i'll just pull the two geil pc4200s; 2x1G should be enough anyway....thanks...

All four sticks are not matched. I wonder if that has anything to do with it. I'm going to be playing with 4 matched 1gig RAM sticks of OCZ Platinum when it arrives next week. Any additional tips from anyone would be appreciated. ![]() __________________ Asus P4P800 Deluxe Intel P4 3.2 Extreme Edition @ 3.47 / Zalman CNPS7000-AlCu / Arctic Silver Ceramique 2x512 Mushkin PC3500 222 Black Hi Performance Level II ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon X800 XT / Samsung Syncmaster 215TW 21" Wide Screen LCD Two Western Digital RE2 500 Gb YS Raid Edition SATA hdd's Two Western Digital 250 Gb Raid Edition hdd's Two Western Digital My Book 500 Gb external USB2/Firewire hard drives LiteOn 165H6S DVD Super AllWriter / LiteOn 166s 16x DVD-Rom Onboard LAN Antec SX1240 full tower Soundblaster Audigy 2 zs Platinum / CambridgeSoundworks 5.1 DTT 3500 Digital Speakers Logitech G5 Laser Mouse Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard Razer eXactMat + eXactRest win2000 | |

| I can't remember the bios options on this board. Is there a way to raise the chipset (aka NB) voltage? You need more chipset voltage with 4 DIMMs. You also need more NB cooling with 4 DIMMs.

| no i dont think there's a way to increase chipset voltage: just increasing the cpu voltage, the ddr reference voltage, and the agp/vddq voltage. i've cranked up the cpu voltage and ddr voltage.... i've got the side of my box open, for better ventilation, but no extra cooling... i started out with the two geil sticks, then bought the 2G OCZ...and then decided, heck, with four slots, fill all four.....but the system hasn't worked that smoothly since.....sometimes far cry just closes down, which i presume is some memory issue....

| I had the same board with 4 different memory chips and i didnt have any trouble. Could adding more memory and trying to overclock your system make your powersupply not handle the load? |
