P3 1 gig stock cooler or somthing different

the p3 1 gig stock heatsink an fan ive read was a good one !
is thier a better choice ?
wich would make a considerable difference ?

Hi Markus,

The P3 1 gig stock cooler does a very good job and it's pretty quiet. If you don't plan on overclocking it will work fine. I would advise you to remove the thermal tape, clean the heatsink with isopropyl alcohol and apply some thermal compound instead.

FYI:

The heatsink that came with my (Boxed) Intel P-III 1GHz FPGA Flip-Chip had thermal compound (not a pad or tape) already applied.
(Just remember to remove the protective tape covering the compound before you install it) .

BTW, Watch out for defective hold-down levers on some of the P-III FPGA heatsinks... My original one broke off at the cams when I went to install it.

I contacted Intel, and they acknowleged that there were some defective units out there, and asked me what color was the cam/lever (it was GRAY, BTW).

They sent me a replacement hold-down assembly via Fed-Ex Overnight... The New cam/lever is GREEN in color, and worked perfectly.
