P4p800 deluxe and corsair

Hi, i just bought corsair xms series 2x256 mb ram . the info sticker on the ram is CMX256A-3200C2 ...and i have 2 sticks of these for dual channel
i had copy errors with my p4p800 deluxe when running xp home, and when installing counter strike, i got an I/O error..

but then i used a no name brand ram, i installed windows and there were NO copy errors and installing counter strike, i got NO
I/O errors.
also, when i ran memtest86, it said it had problems with the ram..but when i ran memtest it said it had no problems with the no name brand

is the p4p800 deluxe compatable with the corsair?

Or did i just get a bad batch of memory?
(i have asus p4p800 deluxe, p4 2.4 ghz 800 fsb)

Thanks

check the memory timings in the bios to see if they match whats on the label of the ram

disable turbo mode and memory acceleration mode in the bios and run the memtests again.

Not sure if I'm allowed to name other forums, but if you look around, you will find forums (one in particular) with 100s of threads with 1000s of messages about people trying to get XMS to work with Asus P4XXXXX boards.

I spent a few hours reading them and am happy to have ordered OCZ.

To help you out, I suggest contacting Corsair or the company you bought it from and find out how to RMA them. They seem to be more than willing to wave a white flag when someone says it doesn't work like it should.

I have the same modules as you corsair 3200 C2 2x256 running in dual channel mode timings of 2-3-3-6-8 @200 mhz all is well here I post over 5000 in memory bandwidth marks. What bios are you using, I am running bios 1007 turbo off, MAM enabled Make sure you check all your settings, especially your timings, this board is sensitive to timings.

Every stick of RAM has the possibility of having its own unique timings that it requires to run efficiently. I believe timings can also change with the same stick of RAM but in different boards with different CPUs and PSUs.

Just because one stick of RAM works at XXX timings does not guarantee an equivalent or better stick will work in the same equipment with the same timings. That's why it appears "optimized" pairs are so important... because even 2 sticks of Corsair XMS 3500LL bought separately could be slightly different in optimum timings.

Sounds like you need to work with it and see what timings it needs. I have the Corsair XMS 3000 and it works fine on my P4P800. Try setting it to 2.3.3.6.
