| I have a P2.4C on a Asus P4P800 deluxe board. I need to get the memory so I can install it. I have been reading this group for hours now and still cant suss out which memory to get. In the mean time no PC. My requirements is that it must run on my board at standard speeds (No OC) however once up and running I would like to get into overclocking hence i whant to get the right DDR memory to start with. Due to price I want to populate the board with 2 matched sticks of 256K DDR memory, leaving the ability to go to 4 later. From what I read I need to get matched sticks (Is this correct or just hype ?? ) Secoundly I would like to enable Turbo & MAM with no overclocking on the processor. Thirdly I would like to play around with OC. I know it sounds like i want it all but whats the best memory to achive all or most of what ive asked. From this group ive been told its best to get Double sided memory but 1 am finding it difficult to find any at 256K. Any suggestions ???? Been looking at Corsair TwinX512 but they are not double sided. Thanks Carlo |

| Even if you get the best quality/most expensive memory, there is no guarantee you'll be able to run MAM & Turbo. I spent a lot of money on Mushkin PC3500/222 and I can not run either. I can however run @ 22268 at 200FSB. Which, is what the RAM is advertised to do. I think the general rule is: you can have high FSB, or you can have low latencies? You don't normally get both in the same module. There are not many double sided 256MB sticks out there. I think OCZ has one. You may want to ask BigToe.

| Wow, I came here to post the VERY same thread. 256 @ 2DIMM, no O/C, but want to try O/C down the road.... I'm not sure I understand what you mean by Double sided memory... |

| Good to see this thread getting some replies. Especially as I think the questions im asking are typical of which should be asked by beginers like myself. I have spent hours going through this and other groups and I am understanding it better although there is no thread which pulls all these questions to gether so it would be great to draw this to conclusions. Right as I now under stand it. Its a bit of a trade off. You either have a Pc3200 with tight timings (ie Twinx3 200LL) or trade of tighter timing for better CPU overclocking (ie XMS3700). Isnt it far better to go with higher OC than stay at default with tight timmings ??? Also I read a review on this group comparing OCZ double sided 256K DDR memory with Corsair single sided memory. It said there was quite a difference in performance. Due to finances I can only afford 512K max and running dual configuration is the way to go hence 2 sticks of 256K. In reality is there much difference between double and single sided ???? At the moment im thinging of relaxed latency but a higher rated memory (ie PC3700) as surley overclocking far outweighs tight timings. My next thing will be which memory is compatable with my board and best value for money. CSX |
