| Tweakhound's and Fleabus' posts are correct and very informative. There is a lot of misinformation surrounding virtual memory with the Windows operating system. 99.9% of the “tweaks” are false or not even based on factual information, and the ones that are true are so misconstrued. I am very surprised on also the fact of what was included with the links and often is not is the fact that memory in Windows is accessed via virtual not real. The inverse is true and many do not know this. It is often heard that teachers have to reteach the thinking of memory usage and accessing. Eldonko, have you ever considered that it could be relative to the server, network, your provided Internet service, or a combination of such? True, it can be due to hardware. But with MMO games the networking code used is known for not using prediction and having horrible loads. Was it not recently that WoW has now included prediction in the netcode? I could be very much incorrect, but there is only one game that will show you thrashing very well with the page file and that is Battle for Middle Earth 1 and 2 (unless you have 512MB video card, 2GB of system memory or do not use high end settings). Once you experienced the game and the paging then you can tell the difference of the effect of paging on a system. It's like the Windows 95 days and 16MB of system memory, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, slowly watching the desktop draw. Networking slowdowns almost feel the same but are not. |
