Part 2 of Memory Holy Grail is Up!

My "Searching for the Memory Holy Grail - Part 2" has just been posted at Anandtech. I compare DDR500 from Adata, Corsair, Geil, Kingston, and OCZ. I also show real-world benchmarks comparing SS vs. DS and 2 vs. 4 dimms.

Prometheus, thanx for the heads up on part 2,I have always found your reviews quite informing.Reading your articles and the advise you always offered openly were the main reasons I became a member of ABXZone, and the Bleeding Edge forums. Also I am making more visits to AnandTech, since you signed on.Keep up the good work.

That was one of the most informative articles on memory performance/evaluation I've seen.

OCZ made a very impressive showing.

interesting how the 2x SS Kingston didn't overclock as well as 4x SS Kingston but the unbuffered sandra and benchmarks were higher with 2x SS than 4x SS due to PAT being disabled with 4 sticks

You weren't supposed to notice that, eva The numbers got transposed in posting and have been corrected.

I also found that very strange, and checked my notes. Thanks!

i wonder if memory manufacturers will ever release how each of their memory ranges are SPD'd programmed to see what affects it has on memory performance and oc'ing

maybe for part 3 you'd have more Hynix chips showing up http://asusboards.com/forums/showthr...threadid=53079

and if Twimos Twister PC3700/PC4000 decide to work http://asusboards.com/forums/showthr...threadid=53304 on P4C800-E heh

my P4C800-E just arrived as well so going to use that to run my memory tests on too .. interesting comparisons i can imagine

The thing that most catched my attention, was OCZ PC3700 performance. In some cases, outperforms even the OCZ PC4000!

*Raises hands towards sky*

Why, oh why?

Flash charts for the results. What's wrong with images, or the HTML charts that were used before. Now I'll have to switch to IE just to view the results, as I want Firebird to be a flash-less browser (no more sound and animated crappy ads).

Otherwise, a solid article as usual, Wes. Good work.

Kongo -

I am told the Flash charts use less bandwidth than other options. With 1300+ active reviews plus news, forums, etc. bandwidth savings become a significant feature.

Ah, that seems like a valid (and clever) reason to use them. I'll toggle over to IE when I browse AnandTech I suppose - that's the easiest way .

Thanks bud.

Was the memory for this review purchased on the open market, or was it supplied by the manufacturers?

That is rather disappointing. The incentive for manufacturers to cherry-pick modules for review on a site as influential as Anandtech is simply to great to be ignored.

Otherwise, a very nicely done review.

With manufacturers supplying the memory, even if they ALL "Cherry-pick", the comparison is still valid. We would be comparing the best of the best.

You all know me here, and I'm telling you where it came from in the review because I think you should know that. I also buy on the open market, like you, to make sure we're not being fed a line. As much as possible I also try to keep up with other reviews to see if our results are in line. If they're not, I dig deeper.
