Problem Adding Memory

I have an "older' computer with a 2.66 Intel processor and and Intel 845 motherboard. I have one 512K stick of Crucial memory installed with a single empty slot. I think the memory is PC 2700. I also have a 512k stick of PC3200 Kingston Hyper X that I am not using and I thought it was backward compatable and could be used to fill the empty memory slot.

I installed it in the slot and the computer seemed to start up normally except I got no video at all. Was it a mistake to try installing a different speed and brand memory or is something else going on? Ideas?

Its always best to use the exact same memory for both sticks but if that's not possible you should be able to use two different kinds. The first thing I'd do is test that Kingston 512MB stick by itself in there to make sure its working. Take the other one out and see if you can get it to work by itself.

Then try them both together again. You can try going into the BIOS and setting the RAM timings really loose (3-4-4-8 maybe) or setting it to Auto might work. They may be happier in different slots...it varies.
Also just in case you should make sure you didn't bump the vid card or the monitor cable!

Thanks. That slot is very close to the vid card so maybe I did bump it. I'll try a reinstall and your other suggetions.
