Problems with memory and mainboard

Hey,

This is my current system configuration:

Mobo: Asus P4s8x
Mem: 1024 MB Kingston Pc2700 DDR - single channel
HDD: 1X SATA WD 320GB
HDD: 1X IDE WD 160 GB
DVD: 1X DVD+/-RW NEC 16x
CD: LiteOn 52x CDRW
DVD:1x DVD-Rom NEC 16x
Case: Antec SLK3700BQE Black, 350 Watt, 1 X 120mm (SLK3700BQE)
VGA: Geforce ti6xxx) (I thought 6600)

I've got some weird problems with this system, it started since I moved the pc from my old Chieftec to a new Antec case. The problems are:
Suddenly my memory died, I replaced it with the above mentioned module, but this one is also given me errors.
After the memory failures my hard disk (a brand new maxtor 40 gb disk) crashed and my floppy disk has passed away too.

I replaced the harddisk with the wd sata 320 gb. But my memory is still giving errors in memtest (on test #7)

7:
This test writes a series of random numbers into memory. By resetting the seed for the random number the same sequence of number can be created for a reference. The initial pattern is checked and then complemented and checked again on the next pass. However, unlike the moving inversions test writing and checking can only be done in the forward direction.

Maybe anyone on this board can help me?

grz.

I'm thinking you may have shorted the moboard to the case. I would remove it from the case and set it on some cardboard. Run memtest with only the cpu, video, and 1 stick of memory. unplug/remove everything else.

The P4S8x is very finicky as far as power supply req go. I have one of these boards.

I would search thru the abxzone for several problems related to PS problems with this boad. The HDs, memory, and video card are power hogs and you need a stable power source.

I am running an Enermax ve465 with my system only after I had to RMA the MOBO and Corsair memory because of stability issues. Prior I had an el cheapo ps which I belive contributed to the problem .

These boards never were fixed adequately they never had a final bios version and most people dumped them . A few hardy souls like me ( who don't have unlimited resouces ) hung onto theirs.

So basically what you're saying is that I'd dump the mainboard and buy a new one, or replace the power supply?

I RMA'd the corsair and I brought the complete pc to the dealer for RMA. I've had it with this damn thing.

It has been the experience of most of the people who bought this board was that a lot of the instability issues were tied to an inadaquate PS aftter the baord was RMA'd. If you research the P4S8x board it had very stringent req as far as PS go.

Since you bought the system from a dealer I would ask for him to swap to another board with same features or to replace the PS with one that will be adaquate for the board. Not just able to boot but run a system burn in for 24 hrs or better without a failure.

So in a nut shell replace the board or replace the PS. Since the cost of a new board is about 2x the price of a good branded PS I would argue with the vendor to replace an industry know defective board. These boards have been selling for about $50 in the surplus channels.
