Unhappy RAM at 166mhz!!!! Am I completely ignorant or am I doing something wrong??

Ok, my FSB is at around 140... pretty much stock. When I check my specs with cpu-z it says my 400Mhz Twinx memory is running at about 166 mhz!! What's up with that???

I think my cpu has a locked multiplier of 12 but is there any way I could get more juice our of my high priced (€ 700) memory and system??

Nevery really looked at those stats and my system seemed to perform fine (especially over my old 733eb).

166MHz DDR = 333MHz data rate = DDR333. The P4PE's i845PE supports DDR333 tops (DDR400 works, but is essentially OCing).

Are you using a memory divider other than 1:1?

Ah yes...

I think I'm now running at 1:1... At least I remember CPU-Z saying I did but I also seem to be running at a 4:3 ratio or something...

What setting would seriously be tampering my performance? Is it better to have a 1:1 devider?

Bah, I was delerious before.

The i845PE supports DDR333 for the P4Bs, which actually means a 4:5 ratio, since the FSB is 4 x 133MHz and thus the memory would be at (5/4) x 133MHz = 166MHz or DDR333.

Using 1:1 with the P4Bs would actually be running at DDR266 or PC2100 speeds, when you can actually run at PC2700 speeds default.

I created this little chart the other day.

Thanks but I still don't get how I can get the full potential out of my system?

Maybe now I am delerious?? Maybe I left my brain at home...

Check out what memory dividers the BIOS offers. I would suspect something like 1:1, 4:5 and 5:4 and maybe others too. Choose one that will make your RAM go as fast as possible (4:5 will run the memory at DDR333 speed when your CPU is at stock speeds).

Then there's always overclocking .

I'l poke around in the bios but I'm sure there is no devider option. . I can manually choose 355, 367, etc... I guess this Basicly comes down to the same thing.

Anyway, whatever I change in the bios, either increase the FSB or anything else it hardly has any effect on benchmark performance. I had it running at 3.2 ghz before and I didn't notice the difference.
