Cool Revisiting OCZ PC3500 Plat LE BH-5 @250mhz 2227 [pics lots]

Dam i decided to see what cooling memory will do for ocs and man I'm surprised by 1GB OCZ PC3500 Plat LE BH-5 on AI7 at 3.18v

--------
no cooling

max prime stable = 240mhz 2-2-2-6 667fsb strap A-A-A-D-D
max benchable = 242mhz 2-2-2-6 667fsb strap A-A-4-D-D

--------
with cooling
strapped 60x38mm delta 50-60cfm fan on the top mid section of the ram modules with TT fan speed control set to high

placed the Delta 60x38mm 50-60cfm fan onto of the 2 ram sticks in the middle. Taped a piece of cardboard on one side of the fan so it flushed against the side of ram stick in dimm slot #3 and taped the cardboard to the ram stick using masking tape. Then taped other side of the fan to the Corsair Hydrocool's waterblock retention spring on my the P4 bracket.

Posted pics here

max prime stable = not yet tested but can do super pi 32M at 245mhz 2-2-2-6 so far
max benchable = 250mhz 2-2-2-6/7 667fsb strap A-A-A-D-D

-----------------
updated to 17 official bios and increased unbuffered scores to 3828/3801 MB/s!

unbuffered
250mhz 2-2-2-7 at 3.18v vdimm

----------------
with 16beta1 bios

unbuffered
250mhz 2-2-2-7 @ 3.18v vdimm

unbuffered
242mhz 2-2-2-6 @ 3.18v vdimm

Note: cpuz on AI7 reports wrong cpu/ram ratio when NB Strap 667fsb is used and swaps 1:1 and 5:4 around.

here's 17 bios with 250mhz 2-2-2-7 at 3.18v vdimm

FYI, OCZ PC3500 EL is not the same as OCZ PC3500 Plat LE with PC3500 EL you won't be able to do 2-2-2-*

Oh i know... thats why i have been having a bitch of a time matching a good pair because the 3500's i mentioned are bh5's bought two years ago this stuff will do 450. I didn't want to give these up but had to compromise it for the gig of the platnums. But the new sticks will do 500 mhz no prob on air and will hit 6k in sandra good enough for the knxp. They want an arm and a leg for bh5's if you can find them. I'm back to stock speeds 400 mhz @ 2225 2.4c i went through so much ram for this board and fell asleep at the wheel for the bh5's but you have to remember this is before farcry

Hi Eva,

Aren't you worried about damaging your ram?

winbond BH-5 is spec'd rated to max 3.6v vdimm and BH-5/6 ram handles high vdimm very well.. people have run 3.3+v for over 1+ yr while i'm only benching at that speed not 24/7

Thats good info to know. I am not much of a DDR expert, since I have been stuck in RD ram land for about two years. But I thought it was bad to run over 2.9v. But if you say so, I beleive you.

Thanks!
