Suggest Good Memory

I had my Sys in my sig running with 2 sets of Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 1066 Dual Channel memory. The first set I received was double sided and the second set was single sided. When I install both sets at 1066 I eventially get crashes. I removed the single sided set and my sys runs stable. I read many bad reviews concerning the later single sided memory. Can somebody please suggest better memory which will run stable on my system?

Thank You!

Re: Suggest Good Memory

In general, you are better off with a solid 2 x 2gb kit.

any high quality memory manufacturer should do fine--> Corsair, G.Skill, OCZ, Mushkin, Super Talent...do some price comparisons and read some user feedback...either way you shouldn't go wrong with any of the ones listed

Re: Suggest Good Memory

Thanks everybody for your advice. I was checking the reviews and prices on Newegg. Is there a better place to find mem reviews?

(Specmike said: In general, you are better off with a solid 2 x 2gb kit.)

I guess with a 2x2 kit one could expect better stability versus 2 2x1 kits. That is what I will buy.

Thanks.

Re: Suggest Good Memory

I have a 2x2GB Corsair kit. DDR2-800. No frills, but it's working beautifully.

Re: Suggest Good Memory

I've done well with both Corsair and OCZ. I'm currently using this OCZ 2x2gB kit of DDR2-1066 (on a Gigabyte GA-X48-DQ6):

Newegg.com - OCZ Platinum 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory

Regards,

Re: Suggest Good Memory

I have used Mushkin in my computers for years and never had a problem. They tend to be a little more expensive but you get what you pay for, and the lifetime warranty doesn't hurt either.

Re: Suggest Good Memory

I would check your motherboard manufacturer's QVL (qualified vendor list) and then make your choice based off the size kit you are looking for from that list. There are a lot of great memory vendors out there, but not all memory plays nice with every motherboard, regardless of who made the memory.

I choose memory by first selecting the motherboard, finding the QVL, finding the size kit I am looking for (2x1GB, 2x2GB, etc) and take a look at the qualified kits and then choose the one I see with the best results with my motherboard, or whichever is better known for performance/overclocking.
