testing ram and voltage??

how do you know when to up the voltage you are applying to ram? do i add a little voltage, then go to memtest and test it or what is recommended?

i am hoping for about 250-260 out of my PC3200 Gold.

Prolly a guide out there someplace. I know that there's links to something in the OCZ Support forum over at BE.

My (half-wit) method is to pick a realistic OC/voltage combo at the timings you want. Say, 220FSB @ 3v on your stix w/2-2-2-5. See if that passes memtest. If so, bump it another 10MHz, and continue until it craps out. Then, bump the voltage one increment at a time until the previously unreachable OC is working. Keep doing that until you can't go any further.

If your goal is highest FSB at the tightest timings, you're done. If you're only after higher FSB, loosen the timings a bit and begin again from the point you left off.

Granted, this way takes a lot of time, but that's part of the fun of OC'ing.

BTW, keep in mind your multiplier and CPU settings. Sometimes, if you're pushing the CPU limits, Memtest will fail the stix. Bump the Vcore a bit and they'll pass. That's also a clue to where you'll see success in Memtest but trouble in Windows or Prime.

What's the SPD for that FSB? Sometimes you can see a couple sets programmed in using CPU-Z. What's the best you can do at 2-2-2?

i got 250 now @ 2-2-2-5 @ 3.6v. i think my mobo is to blame though. those DFI boards seem to love this ram.

also i am seeing the same performance as i was with looser timings and the plats, whats up with that??? maybe i need a new thread for that

250 is pretty good.. You can prolly tweak a few more Mhz out of it.

i am more than happy with 250 for stable everyday usage if i can get that.

I am reinstalling XP now because i think it is corrupt. then i will redo some of the tests as i SHOULD be getting better memory performance with the new memory at 2-2-2-5 compared to old memory at 2.5-4-4-10

What tests are you talking about? I always use the Memtest figures for measuring memory performance by itself. You can't be getting the same B/W with those new timings?

here are the old screenshots from the Plats i had at 250mhz, 2.5-4-3-7 timings, the buffered scores are 350points higher than the new ram and the unbuffered is maybe 50points higher
