Upgrading dual channel memory to 2GB what make would be best?

Trying to chose between Patriot PDCG3200LLK and OCZ Platinum PC3200. They are both rated at 2-3-2-5 at 2.6 volts. They will be going into a Asus A8V deluxe board. Have a 1GB kit Patriot set in there now that is rated 2-3-2-5 over clocked to 480.

One question, are you going to pull the old stuff out and run 2 1GB sticks pr run 4 512MB sticks? If you are going to run 4 sticks then I would chose the Patriot. If you are going to run 2 1GB sticks, the Crucial Ballistix is some good stuff.

Some folks have had luck with the OCZ up to 220-230, but mine would not run a bit over spec. So if you're counting on OC, I'd recommend against it. Don;t get me wrong -- it's great at stock, but so is the Patriot.

The OCZ Perf kit is what I switched to instead of the Plat, but that's not real impressive either. Gaspar posted on BE about the Patriot 2G kit, so you might want to either search that or PM him for his impressions -- although it seems that his experience may be due to a good bit of luck.

If OC'ing performance at 2G is the goal, the OCZ or Crucial 4000 is prolly your best bet. But you might want to sell a kidney first, as neither is inexpensive.

The Ballistix are $314 if you buy two individual sticks at Newegg which doesn't sell pairs. That works out to $157 per GB which isn't really bad if you think about it.

The Patriots are a good bargain. Corsair CMX1024-3200C2 v1.2 is also pretty good. I've seen people do 250 @ 2.5-3-2 with the Corsairs.

The Asus A8V is a little quirky about RAM, so I don't know how well any of the above will do in that board.

I have a gig of Musking DDR433 which is running@ 2.75 volts. I'm looking at throwing in another Gig of memory and I am not seeing any of the voltages that run near 2.75. It is either higher or lower, so if that is the case which is the best to use? I wouldn't mind getting the same memory I have now, but I can not find it on newegg anylonger. They have some Redline memory for $169 but that required 3.1-3.2 volts so I don't want to bump my old stuff up (it would void the warranty on it).

I have been testing those 2x1gb OCZ PC3200 Platinum sticks in my system for a few days now. While I am certainly not finished here's where the system seems to max out with my FX-55:

Using a 13x mnultiplier, I can get to about FSB225 stable at 2.5 3 3 7 1T with bandwidth around 7200.

Using a 14x multiplier I can get to about FSB208 stable at 2 3 2 5 1T with bandwidth around 6800.

In both cases I was using 2.8v of vDimm. Frankly, I think the CPU is more maxed out than the RAM and I do think that the RAM could go a bit higher. All in all, the performace of those sticks, considering their size, is pretty good. I guess the bottom line is what CPU you are pairing it up with. If you have a "hot" 3200+ Venice core, they probably aren't the best choice. With a faster CPU, they present a good quality alternative to other brands given my limited testing of them.

Id recomend the Patriots myself, though as its been said many times before I did get really lucky. It seems thoghu folks are getting good clocks now out of the latest batches of these. 250@cas 2.5 is nothing to shake a stick at. I managed 560@ 3,3,3,8 at 2.6v effortlessly.

Since it's an AMD the memory should be single sided. So while most DDR2 512MB sticks are SS, many DDRI 512MB mem sticks are DS, double sided. (The Patriot site just went down for maintenance, so I can't look at the spec sheets.)
