Your opinion - the best OC'ing RAM for NF4 SLI-DR

OK, I've read a lot and I've seen many different setups, but what is your opinion for the best overclocking RAM I can get for this rig (see sig)? I know that the biggest part of overclocking is technique, skill, knowledge, and so on, but the other part is the component. I think it would be 2x512, but what else?

Roger that FB, I can get 280 just fine (easier with the 623.3 BIOS than 704-2BTA for me), but not much more & I'm happy with that. What I've noticed is the higher benchmarks people get mostly using 2x512 sticks. Am I missing something here?

usually the older TCCD ram did the best. there is some newer TCCD floating around that isn't doing to bad, and yes those are 2x512mb sticks.

the way i understand it, you loose a little oc'ability when you add more ram, ie. 2x256 oc's best, then 2x512, then 2x1gb

Thanks FB, I wasn't sure about 2x256 though. Still the Ballistix would you say...do they make the Tracers in 256 or 512?

actually Sierra has had great luck with G.SKill TCCD ram in 2x512mb

if you want highest OC's possible for ram, then TCCD,

if you want high OC all around with not so high on the ram, BH5

if you want best long term oc kit, then i would say Ballistix 2gb as 2Gb is almost a necessity now.

Thanks FB, got the 2G kit of Ballistix already, very nice RAM they are. Just looking for something to use for benching that would compliment the mobo & CPU.

If you want to bench, there are several choices:

Winbond BH-5
- Allows you to run 2-2-2 at DDR540 or higher
- Needs a lot of voltage to get that high, usually at least 3.6v
- Not manufactured anymore, so you'd need to find a good used set

UTT
- RAM based on the Winbond designs
- Capable of DDR540 or higher
- Tends to have a higher failure rate than BH-5

Samsung TCCD
- Capable of DDR600 or higher
- Usually runs best at 2.5-3-3 or 2.5-4-3
- Uses low voltage, usually 2.8 or lower
- The best TCCD modules use hand-picked chips and are generally expensive

I found some interesting reviews & statistics.
http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=get...94&articID=277
and
http://www.amdboard.com/ddr600.html
for 14 different reviews & reviewers.
I think I'm getting close to what I want.

User experiences are better than reviews, IMO. The results in any review are dependant on a number of factors, including the motherboard, the BIOS, and the overclocking skill (or lack thereof) of the reviewer.

Thanks Sierra, points taken & understood. No matter what I get, I realize that it will take me time to develop enough skill to take full advantage of what I have. That is the fun part & I'm looking forward to doing it. I'm just looking for parts that I will later be glad I bought
