advice on occasionally boot or reboot sequence stops short

hi,

Here's a good one..

Upon 'normal' bootup or reboot as always you will see the cdrom light blink, then the cdrw light blink ...and here the monitor relay clicks and monitor comes on and it finishes the rest of the bios post information on the monitor screen starting with:
NVIDIA TNT VGA BIOS
Version 2.05.20.02.12
(c) 1996-1999 NVidia Corp
32 MB RAM

...and then the next screen up shows:

AMIBIOS (c) 2000 American Megatrends Inc 07.00.xx
BIOS Date: 6/26/01
AMD-Athlon 9tm0, 1100MHz
Checking NVRAM...
256MB OK
Press F1 to run Setup
(c) American Megatrens Inc
.......................bios string numbers

etc, etc, etc................

...and then the computer boots up just fine, BUT.............

Occasionally on bootup, or even a reboot, the cdrom light blinks then the cdrw light blinks like normal, BUT, then it stops right then and there and goes no further and just sits there ...the monitor relay never clicks on or Nothing else continues - however you can hear the HD turning and see the processor fan and power supply turning - the power button is on - but again the computer never finished its bootup sequence past the cdr & cdrw lights blinking and just sits there. In order to have it boot up I have to unplug the computer for 15 seconds and then turn it back on and it will boot up normal (scandisk never runs because as pointed out the computer never actually posts, or starts)

What do you think is causing this?

Maybe since the Video Card is the first thing in line it has something to do with that?
NVIDIA TNT VGA BIOS
Version 2.05.20.02.12
(c) 1996-1999 NVidia Corp
32 MB RAM
.......now I'd be willing to do a bios flash on it to see if that may do it - but I just need to find the flash and latest version bin for it - where can I get that I've looked but have not come up with it yet?

..Or maybe it's something even before the Video Bios that is the problem?

Any suggestion please

Thank you!
.............ps a little more info:
The things I've done already to try and resolve was to flash the regular bios from 0AAVWP02 to new 0AAVWP13 ...surprisingly that didn't help.

The video card is a Creative Labs 3D Blaster RIVA TNT2 model CT5823 ..and it's the only thing I could not flash because I can't find any video bios upgrade for it to flash it- but from the bios post info it's a:
NVIDIA TNT VGA BIOS
Version 2.05.20.02.12
...........of course I've already installed the newest video Software Drivers and got that right from the Nivdia website and used v53.04 ...but that didn't fix it either.

If you haven't already, ensure all your PSU voltages are within spec. You can use MM monitor, it also logs highs & lows. Bad power can cause intermittant issues such as what your experiencing. Hope this helps.

Moncho, i'm not sure it's the power supply in this case, but I may just swap it out with a spare just to rule that out.

Is there any other replies about my post

TIA

Well how about if I ask a simple question then if the one above has too many words in it to wade through it.

What item is in control of the first boot post operation and carries out that information before/during what you see it's doing on the bios post information?

I assume it's the vga bios right, and then it's the vga bios in tandem with the regular bios.....?

If the vga bios is activated first? ..then it seems logical that my above problem described in my first post is with the the vga bios?

(Edit i came back to edit this later)

Well I found a much newer video bios and flashed it.. ..but after testing it for a while and after the 7th reboot it still showed that my original problem still happened ...so I reflashed it back to the way it was.

I suppose it could be a physically bad/intermittent of either bios but I doubt it now since after tryng the flash of each that it may not be the bios at all. Well one thing for certain it has to be whatever is in control of the very very begining of the boot/post process just before whatever tells the monitor relay to click on...

Any other suggestions as to what could be causing this?

thank you
