Any way to alter the driver a peripheral uses via registry?

As title says.

I have a SmartJoy Plus playstation controller to USB adapter. I also have Win XP x64 for which the original SJ drivers don't work. When connected the adapter automatically installs with a basic driver (no force feedback), identifying itself as a Smart Joy Plus, and I can't find any obvious way of altering the driver for it (yes, this includes "update driver").

I also have a .exe for EMS USB2 x64 XP drivers, which appear to have installed fine. Except, there's no listing for it when trying to update drivers, and there's no x64 compatible .inf file available anywhere.

What I do have is the driver files installed (from ·sºô*¶1 , EMSUSB.SYS, usbpadff.dll and usbpadcp.dll) and correct registry entries for it to allow force feedback. I also have an older reference .inf file for win 98/2k (from http://contents.driverguide.com/cont...2Fusbpadzz.inf , obviously doesn't play with x64).

I just don't know how to connect these to the adapter I've inserted. Best thing I've seen is a HKLM\currentcontrol...\Joystick\OEM\VID_ entry for both smart joy (just has oemdata binary entry and oemname) and one for EMS (has a configclsid and axes/force feedback info). I'm thinking there's gotta be a way to trick one into using the data for the other? So if anyone knows...
