Cannot Connect To Network Printer

Hey Guys :

We have a printer @ work, installed on a Vista machine, it's shared, Model is Samsung Laser ML 2250, and a client PC with also Vista installed, when I select connect I get the "Cannot Connect To Printer, Not Enough Memory" Msg ... Tried installing driver on the client then connecting, to no avail, same msg appears. Thing is when I look for it in AD right-click on it and print a test page it works fine, still cannot connect to it though

I am clear out of ideas ... Please can anyone help, it's urgent !!!!! On XP clients all works just fine, on Vista clients are giving this msg

Re: Cannot Connect To Network Printer

Samsung printers are usually wndows driven printers. That is they use windows as the print engine. The don't have their own that's where the term windows printer comes from.

Since Vista is such a memory hog it maybe a case where it's not the printer at fault but the system memory on the Vista system. I am assuming that the printer fails on all vista systems.

It works on XP because you have enough memry head room to drive a windows printer.

I have a Vista system w 4Meg of memory. If you have system with less than that you are going to have problems. I know you can run on less but not without some throughput isssues driving a windows printer maybe one of them.

Re: Cannot Connect To Network Printer

So now it comes down to a Vista sharing issue.

If you don't make the printer a shared resource on the natively attached system you can load the drivers on the other systems till your blue in the face.

If you make the printer sharable on the natively attached system then you should be able to go to printers on the other systems and it should be able to find it as a shared network resource and will ask for you to install the drivers.

Might want to see if this printer is able to be shared and has a shareable network driver. If it does it should go once you make the printer a shared resource.

In the users guide onpage 4.29-4.31 are the instructions for setting up sharing for a printer in nt,XP. That's the good news. The bad is I don't see instructions for Vista. The setup should be similar to XP but don't forget Vista drivers for printer took a long time coming out. I assume you have downloaded the latest drivers for Vista from Samsung download site. The drivers for any devie that comes on the cd is usually behind the times.

Being your in Beirut don't know which site you would download from.

Re: Cannot Connect To Network Printer

The Error message I am getting is "Cannot Connect To Printer, There is Not Enough Memory, Please Close Some Programs...". Although when I look for it in the Active directory and find it, then right-click it and print a test page from the client PC it works, I just cannot connect to it Sad

Also I am the Junior Systems Administrator there, my friend the Network Admin doesn't know how to fix it either. We all are beginners there, so please help, I have tried almost all solutions I found on google

Thing is, when I hit the install driver button when I am prompted, it don't ask me to locate them, just installs them on its own, that's when I get the error msg

Re: Cannot Connect To Network Printer

The remaining idea I would have is either call or email Samsung support for their sage wisdom.

The only other idea is that the install process is looking for the driver on your system and can't find it but tries to lkoad some other code and you get the out of memory message.

Either have the driver cd in the cdreader and or load the print driver as local printer and then mod the local printer properties to reflect the network properties.

Anything more is up to you to persue. On bugs like this it's mostly trial and error.

Re: Cannot Connect To Network Printer

Well, so far I installed XP drivers on Vista still the issue remains, will try Vista drivers and see if THAT works ... Else I will throw printer in the bin :P

I hope it don't do that with all printers !
