Anxiously waiting for my Dell 2405FPW

I currently have an HP f2304 23" HD-LCD but I am upgrading since I recently found a dead pixel that ****** me off. I can't wait for my new Dell 2404FPW.

I have been running Half Life 2 and Doom 3 at the full resolution of 1920x1200 and getting full frame rates. HL2 actually runs at 1920x1200 w/ ALL options maxed, 6x Anti-Aliasing, 16x Anti-Triscopic Filtering, and everything else my $600 graphics card can throw at it. I have yet to see ghosting on my HP, so I'm sure that won't be a problem with the Dell.

My advice to anyone who wants a BIG monitor is to match it with a good video card. I'm not saying to go overboard and spent $600 like I did, but probably at least $200.

Well I started this thread hoping to find out if I should buy the Dell 2405(24" lcd) or wait till Dell released the new version of this LCD -2407FPW. The benifits for waitng was HDCP support, lower response times, lighter weight, nicer looking stand.

Well, Dell STILL didn't release the 2407FPW, and I had my heart set on this monitor cause if I got the 2405 then I would regret not getting the newer model when it came out, even though the 2405 came drastically down in price a few weeks ago($849Cdn+free ship.)
I am glad to let everyone know that I went out & bought Samsung's Syncmaster 242MP -http://www.samsung.com/Products/Moni.../PO24FSSBS.asp
This vision of beauty is HUGGGEEEEE!
It has all the specs of Dell's 2407 + some. It comes with a TV/FM tuner as well. It is also HDCP & comes with speakers.
As for the perfomance, it plays all my games wonderfully! I am looking foward to upgrading my computer when Vista does finally come out. I'm looking @ an SLI configuration matched with an AMD FX cpu .

In the mean time my current configure is no slouch so I will enjoy it

$1499Cdn. is the price. It came down drastically in the past few weeks. I saw the same monitor going for close to $2000 near Xmas.

Update: I got my 2405FPW today and it is F'in awesome! It is so much brighter that the HP I replaced it with. The DVI is bright and vivid and the Component is actually TOO bright!

I used to have to turn the brightness all the way up and I would still struggle to see any dark images on the Component inputs. Not any more.

I give this monitor a 9.5 out of 10 because of the 1 dead pixel on it.

Quick question..the native res on the 2405 is 1920x1200, correct? Yet you said you run some games and your desktop at 1600x1200...doesn't that cause some issues with not running at native resolution

I can t speak for ppl with Dell's 2405 but I can tell you about Samsung's 24" 242MP. I think they are very similar: I too run desktop @ native resolution(1920x1200) but most of my games are running @ different res. eg.1024x768.....1600x1200. There are no problems and everything looks AMAZING!

Ok, the only info I was able to get was that they are due to be in sometime in May. There seems to be a delay because of the banding issue as mentioned on the INQ website.

The default setting on the monitor is to "Fill" the image to the screen size. If you leave this setting on, then running games at 1600x1200 which is a 4:3 ratio, will be stretched out to fill the entire 1920x1220 surface area, which is a 16:10 aspect ratio.

However, you can change the aspect fill to "1:1" and then the monitor will no longer stretch images. I changed this setting because I use the component input for HDTV and XBOX 360, both of which use a 16:9 ratio.

Sorry about the late response but it seems tODD has allready answered the question.

I have no issues with non native resolutions in games. I run my desktop at 1920x1200, some games at 1920x1200 and some at 1600x900 or something or other resolutions. Aside from the fact that some of them stretch the image there are no issues.

In fact Oblivion still looks very good at a non native/non widescreen resolution.

Don't get the 2407's...

People are having serious (read: Major) issues with them including very bad image quality.

Unfortunately all the info I found is on a major dutch forum without the direct references to the original links but it is looking bad...

Okay, results are pouring in so you will probably see more on this.

Couple of examples:

I just looked at other sites that are talking about banding on the 2407s.Hope they are prepared for all the RMA's now.Glad I got the 2405 instead of waiting.Maybe they'll get it solved.
