Thumbs up Logitech LX3 Optical Mouse, ME LIKES!!!

I've been using some generic optical mouse for a while now, when I bought it, they didn't have a name brand, but now they're Lynx brand (this one is the LVIII). It lasted 2 years, what do you expect for $5, the left click wore out. It either clicks too many times, or not at all, or gets stuck. Nothing against those mice, but they're NOT as good as the newer logitechs. They were almost as good as some of the older logitech ones though. Anyways, the LX3 is 1000 DPI, has rubber grip pads on the side, and it VERY comfortable. It looks cool too, I got the black and silver from wallymart for $19. I decided it was time for a good mouse, got sick of cheapies. I still have to setup the scroll wheel tilting thing for side to side scrolling. Interesting, good idea, I'll have to see how it works. So far, it's smooth, clicks are well defined, and audible, scroll wheel has solid detents. Good no BS mouse, no forward/back buttons on the side to bump and lose your post in the middle of typing it.

Re: Logitech LX3 Optical Mouse, ME LIKES!!!

Looks to be a similar shape to a basic Logitech mouse I used to have a few years ago. It was quite comfy, but since upgrading to the MX-518 I can't go back. With those features though it's easily a superior mouse over my old one.

Re: Logitech LX3 Optical Mouse, ME LIKES!!!

I dunno what the deal is, but I can't get the stupid setpoint software to install right. I think it might be because youhave to use the USB port to make it work. I dunno, I just want the stupid wheel buttons to work for scrolling left and right. Instead they make 51+mb of bloatware for a stinking mouse that installs some BS bluetooth service for a CORDED mouse!!! WTH, why does EVERYTHING have to be so BLOATED and ridiculously complicated?!?! WTH do you need 51+ mb of stuff to run a mouse for anyways?!?! What's wrong with a driver that takes up less than a meg???

Mouse= excellent
Bloatware driver= GARBAGE!

I never installed the software for my Logitech G5 gaming mouse nor did I install the software for my Logitech G15 gaming keyboard. Perhaps one day I will and play with it a bit.

Re: Logitech LX3 Optical Mouse, ME LIKES!!!

Because I type like a drunken primate I use SetPoint to map every keyboard/combo command I can to both my Revolution and my G5 v2. I even installed uberOptions SetPoint mod on top of that to get additional functionality.

Having the ability to map the commands I use the most is the main reason to use SetPoint, at least for me...

Of course the thread over on Logitech's forums that talks about these new drivers is replete with people having problems...

Unhappy Re: Logitech LX3 Optical Mouse, ME LIKES!!!

Suckpoint 4.24 is what I TRIED to install. The installer completes without errors, and when I go to launch the progrram, I get that crap about there's an error with the configuration, re-installing might fix it. So, I re-installed it a few times trying different things, and it still SUCKS! I guess I'll just live without the left-right scroll. It's not a big deal anyways, I can do without it. Nice hardware, BAD software!

On a more positive note, I do like the "smoothness" of this mouse, it's MUCH better than that Lynx pile. However after smashing it a few times (to the point where I had a hard time finding the parts that came out!!!) and it still works, it's a decent mouse. It did get a little jittery if you were trying to do something like find an exact position in paint or something. This new mouse does GREAT at stuff like that. Much more accurate, and easier to keep on something when you're moving it around (dragging).

Re: Logitech LX3 Optical Mouse, ME LIKES!!!

You know...I don't think you're supposed to be smashing your mouse. I remember finding a mouse in my backyard that one of my dogs had smashed. It didn't live long.
Halo (my youngest) tends to play a little rough.

Re: Logitech LX3 Optical Mouse, ME LIKES!!!

IIRC I found SetPoint pretty good when I installed it for my MX1000. I used the über-hack to enable per-application mouse settings, which really rocks (and is the reason why I'm hacking together something for X in Linux to do the same thing).

I never did like the side-scroll, though. Scrolling with discrete clicks is really unnatural when you're used to up/down-scrolling using smooth wheel action.

I thought that's why they made $6 mice, so when you get po'ed at the computer, you can bash the mouse without being out a bunch of $. Computer mice don't make as big of a mess when you smash them, and they're a LOT easier to put back together. I don't think an organic mouse would survive a good thumping. It's amazing how strong the plastic case is on a mouse, it just distorts enough to snap apart, but doesn't break! I suppose they make them that way for a reason. A friend of mine hit his mouse hard enough the MDF board top of his desk cracked, and the whole desk almost toppled! The mouse DIDN'T BREAK, or even come apart! Dang Sauder furniture, sawdust, glue, and paper with a woodgrain pattern, instant furniture!

Heh...that's pretty funny...I think if I tried that with my teak studio desk I'd break my hand.
Not to mention my Revolution mouse is a bit pricier than six bucks.

Re: Logitech LX3 Optical Mouse, ME LIKES!!!

I replaced my MX300 with the LX3 after my right button stopped working after 3 years (best mouse I've used). The LX3 is total crap compared to the precision of the MX300. I'm not too surprised since it only cost me 25 dollars, but I'll return it to Best Buy UNLESS it's something to do with my system. The problem is that the mouse cursor constantly goes off on mini-detours, ruining my game . . . even in strategy games; I misclick units and other commands. I uninstalled the old mouseware drivers and then installed setpoint. The picture is an example of how my smooth mouse movement was interpreted. I tried my MX300 and it's smooth. Anyways, just wondering if there is anything I can do about it.

Thumbs up Re: Logitech LX3 Optical Mouse, ME LIKES!!!

There might be something wrong with your mouse. The LX3 doesn't do ANYTHING like that to me, but I don't have any drivers installed for it. Just using the windows drivers with the sample rate @ 200 hz. Also look for fine hairs underneath of it in the eye. Then there's what I call the SiS cheapset twitch and glitch. All SiS crapsets tend to have HORRIBLY twitchy mouse action, REGARDLESS of usb or ps2 mice. I HATE SiS!!!

Re: Logitech LX3 Optical Mouse, ME LIKES!!!

Well I couldn't find anything physically wrong with the mouse. I simply returned it and bought the Logitech G5 Laser mouse. It's an excellent product that has many tweaking options. Here is an MS Paint sample I drew.
