Unfortunately, Win9X/ME do a very poor job of managing above 512MB I'm not certain, but under Win9X/ME I think the partition limit for FAT32 is 137GB. Seem to recall reading that W2K can only recognise a FAT32 partition of 32GB. Don't know about XP. | |

| XP Pro/Home and W2K can use 4GB of memory. Windows 98SE can have some troubles above 512MB but it will see up to 2GB. FAT32 will support partitions as large as 2 terabytes. Unfortunately no OS will do that yet.

| OK - that's interesting re FAT32 - thought it could see a fair bit .... it's just that when I formatted a new 80Gb HDD as FAT32 for our studio the other day, FDISK reported the drive as 10Gb, but then correctly formatted it as 80Gb (76Gb approx) ... so this is normal for FDISK yeh? Or is there a better utility I can use in this regard?

| That is a limitation of Fdisk. Partition Magic is great for setting up and managing partitions. You can even resize partitions after you have data on the drive without losing the data. It's not free though. Most harddrives if bought in a retail kit come with a disk that has utilities for this as well. These utilities can be downloaded from their websites too. They can simplify the partitioning and formatting process.
