Mouse pointer speed control in Windows

Is there any way to have greater control over mouse pointer speed in Windows (XP) other than the control panel > mouse > pointer options > speed slider bar? I'm trying to get to grips with a new mouse which by default moved a lot faster than my original mouse. Thing is, the speed I want appears to be somewhere inbetween two of the slider positions available; one feels too fast and the other too slow, and somehow i'm kinda sensitive to it.

Is there something like a registry entry that can be edited for greater control over the speed? Or anything else like additional programs etc that could help? Thanks.

Re: Mouse pointer speed control in Windows

Didn't the mouse come with a software/driver disc? I always use the software that comes with the mouse to adjust settings.

Re: Mouse pointer speed control in Windows

yeah, it's an ms mouse using intellipoint drivers. the only software is the same as the usual windows control at least as far as speed's concerned.

i did actually find some stuff in the registry to control the speed.
ActiveWindows -- Extra Control Over Mouse Speed
under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Mouse\ , there's also a MouseSensitivity setting which the control panel sets to even numbers from 0 to 20. i set it to 3 as it's between the two settings i didn't like, and it seems to feel faster than the lower and slower than the higher setting, still not great but i think that's down to mouse weight and stickyness of the pads underneathe it more than anything else now...
