| Just came to my computer which I had shut off hours before and noticed the green light on the wireless receiver for my Microsoft wireless optical mouse was on as well as one of the lights on the keyboard. I wiggled the mouse thinking it was in Standby mode but the machine was, in fact, off. Turned on the computer and all was well. Turned the computer off once more and the light on the wireless mouse receiver and the keyboard stayed on again, after a proper shutdown. Both devices are PS/2 and I swear I have never noticed this behavior before. I went into the mouse and keyboard Properties, specifically the Power Management tab, and saw that the check mark to allow the computer to turn off these devices to save power was "greyed out" (in other words, the check box was uncheckable). Is this normal? I am still getting used to Vista and my current system and occasionally bump into new "features" here and there but I remember very clearly with my old P4/XP system that when I shut down the computer, everything shut down, including the lights on my keyboard and the light on my mouse' wireless receiver. Any input would be appreciated. |

| Re: Mouse Wireless Receiver Light And Keyboard Light Stays On When Computer Is Shut O Hi Brian, On my recent Gigabyte X38 and X48 builds, I noticed that power remains applied to my ps/2 mice when the computer is shut down. I don't see signs of power being applied to the keyboard, but that might be because I am using usb keyboards through usb-to-ps/2 adapters. The manuals indicate that there are bios settings that can be set to allow certain ps/2 mouse or keyboard actions to turn the computer on. So to support that the mobo provides power to the ps/2 ports at all times, from the 5VSB (standby power) output of the power supply. I suspect that's what is happening in your case, although I have no idea why it might have been behaving differently previously. Regards, -- Al

| Re: Mouse Wireless Receiver Light And Keyboard Light Stays On When Computer Is Shut O Hi Brian! On my motherboard there are two jumpers to enable/disable standby power (5V) to the various USB-ports. If you don't plan on using your keyboard or mouse to swithc on the pc you can safely disable this feature. Greetings Dru

| Re: Mouse Wireless Receiver Light And Keyboard Light Stays On When Computer Is Shut O The light on the pointing device stays lit when you turn the computer off when you connect a Microsoft pointing device to a computer by using the PS2 port Looks like you were 100% right about the PS2 port still getting power, Al. I'll see if I can find that jumper, Dru... |
