| Need help with prehistoric laptop I want to install Open Office on my AcerNote Light (Windows 95) laptop (which I haven't used in years). Trouble is, it's only disk is a floppy, and the Open Office for W95 installation zip file I found is much too large. This antique has serial ports, parallel ports, and PCMCIA ports, but no Ethernet or USB. Any suggestions on how to get a huge file into this computer without investing any/much cash? I have lots of computer "stuff" scattered around the house.

| Re: Need help with prehistoric laptop You could also buy/borrow a USB PCMCIA card and then use a pen drive. Or buy/borrow an Ethernet PCMCIA card and then do it over a network.

| Re: Need help with prehistoric laptop Riffer, That's a great idea. I have a USB case for laptop hard drives. This laptop WAS fine for ordinary (modest size) WORD and EXCEL files. Some time ago I removed these programs, and have since tossed out the original software, so I wanted to install Open Office for W95. I've just about given up on this laptop now, because the BIOS refuses to save any changes. The system now suspends, and saves everything to the hard drives after only three minutes of inactivity. When I change and save in the BIOS, the save fails to stick. And suspending to the hard drive, plus recovering from the hard drive, takes over one minute -- just too aggravating. Searching for another BIOS has been unsuccessful. For what it's worth, this is an AcerNote Light Model 356. I've just about decided to give it to the local high school computer resurrection group (if they even want it).
