| what panel is that using?...it's not a TN panel so anyone know which kind it is?...specs looks nice...I also heard that the 2408WFP suffers from poor input lag which is a big negative for hard core gamers

... and there's even a little known fact (that even dell tech dudes were not able to confirm).. it has built in a new SD-HC reader.. the previous models had a 2gb sd reader capacity limit..! ![]()

| Re: New 24" Dell 2408WFP...! It's beautiful! Absolutely fantastic. First wide format monitor I've had and the image is excellent! I've been looking at some of my digital pics from the last couple of years and they look so much better on the new monitor. No bad/stuck pixels and I'm not noticing much if any red tint. I'm very happy with it so far, even if has been hooked up for less than 2 hours!

| Re: New 24" Dell 2408WFP...! Well S-PVA panels aren't as fast as good TN panels, but they look incredible for graphics work and movies. There's always a trade off. |

| Re: New 24" Dell 2408WFP...! Exactly...polony had commented on input lag for hard core gamers and TN panels, warts and all, are the fastest for gaming usually.

| actually S-IPS panels are generally considered the best overall LCD technology for image quality, color accuracy and viewing angles...but they also suffer from high input lag, and higher response times then TN panels that's what I hate about the current LCD technology...you have to compromise with some feature(s)...there isn't one particular LCD that has all the best features all in one TN panels are currently the best for gaming but you have to suffer through poor color reproduction, especially blacks...and blacks are used extensively in high end PC games...also TN panels don't offer 8 bit panels that's why I'm gonna stick with my high end 21' CRT for as long as I can...I would buy a high end refurbished CRT over any current LCD LCD's are still not the way to go for high end gamers

Wrong!!!!!!! That's a trade off right there! I will not play a game unless I play it in widescreen format. High end gaming to me means -----> widescreen; don't settle for anything less. See all that you can see! Go get a widescreen and you will not go back. ![]() | |

| Re: New 24" Dell 2408WFP...! A discontinued $2,000.00 monitor? I have to agree with traveler polony, my 22" HP2207 TN panel has been a real pleasure...is it perfect?...no, but for around $300.00 does an amazing job..I use it for Stalker, Bioshock, Oblivion, Eve Online, etc., etc, with very few glitches or lag incidents. resolution is native at 1680 x 1050, but I am able to run most games at top settings at this res, with a system not dissimiliar to yours.

| but that's the point I'm trying to make...it is discontinued but it is still available now refurbished for $250-$300...a high end CRT which once cost $2000 can now be had for dirt cheap which can perform better then any current LCD without any need to compromise on anything

like I said in another thread if I change my current monitor I want a better monitor not a worse one...hopefully LCD's will improve in the near future where ALL the best features can be had in one LCD and no one will have to sacrifice quality or other issues just for the sake of having 'widescreen'...but it looks like waiting for OLED's might be the best option the only way LCD's became mainstream was by making CRT's unavailable if CRT's were still being manufactured and sold in the same quantity as LCD's are now then CRT's would still be the clear choice for many people---especially hard core gamers...LCD's only started to take off after CRT manufacturer's stopped producing them

| Re: New 24" Dell 2408WFP...! It will be interesting to see what and when new display tech comes down the road, I agree. I thought long and hard before relegating my 21" Hitachi 828s to a friend who recycles comps for disadvantaged kids, but it was the right move for me. My blacks are quite good btw, I sit in front of my comp, so the viewing angle is really not an issue, and I have not experienced perceptible lag, although Crysis is probably the closest thing to a twitch game I have loaded atm (and my advanced years may have diminished my capacity to sense this ofc). Enjoy your new machine and game on! ![]()
