* New 25.5 HP monitor *

Just received this 25.5 HP today. WOW...its nice. It has about every feature you can think of. Response rate (typical) 3 ms G-to-G at 1920x1200@60 Played 1+ hrs of Fear 2 and no ghosting. Graphics looked beautiful in game.
Yeah 2 dead pixals. But fortunately one at the bottom edge and the other at the left edge down towards the bottom of the screen. I have to really look for them to see em. So far this monitor is a keeper.......
Here's a link to the pic'c and info.... HP® Official Store — Buy an HP w2558hc 25-inch Vivid Color Widescreen Flat-Panel Monitor with Integrated Speakers (FF621AA#ABA) from HP

Re: * New 25.5 HP monitor *

Hey Skully, its a very nice looking monitor... and the specs look great...

Actually its interesting topic to me because I've noticed some expensive monitors out there but when I look at them in-store they dont seem any better than this one I have this Samsung 22 incher... (SyncMaster 2243BW) and I find its great in games and for text. (Maybe I just got a really good one without knowing it - I bought it because it met my response time criteria and it looked good at the time).
But are more expensive monitors worth it in terms of visual quality or attributes?

Thanks, it depends on the panel. How expensive it is. Mine is just a TN panel. Here are some other panels S-IPS, S-PVA, MVA, some can go for $1,000 on the low end. Anywho I'm like you, I'm happy with this one so far....

Re: * New 25.5 HP monitor *

Oh yeah, I know about the different technologies, I'm a bit of a video buff from way back... I just dont know much about the pricing of LCD's.

I remember with CRT's there would be a huge difference in the quality of the picture depending on the type of tube and raster scanning technology used... so a $1000 monitor was much better equiped to deliver a picture faithful to reality than a $200 one...but I dont know that there is a similar variation between LCD's today.

I think they are all essentially the same but with different features on offer such as response times, resolutions, backlighting, USB ports, stands, and so on. I know there can be a performance difference in terms of colour fidelity... something to do with the gamma response correction and colour luminance and response time error rate but otherwise they are all flat (with perfect linearity) and sharp.

I mean are there any $1000 LCD monitors? and if so, why?

[edit] well, just had a look around and to answer my own questions; yep there are a few 1000+ monitors. Seems to be size (inches), whether they're TN or not, contrast ratio, resolution and G to G factors that drive the price, not really anything related to fidelity or quality that I could find.
