| Hi, I am having a problem with a new build. Vista wont install I can install Vista 64bit on 2gb of ram but when I get to the welcome screen it crashes, on me and blue screens all the time I have tried a stick at a time and its still the same. I have also tried another GFX card, I have tested the ram and it said that there was no errors with the ram. I have tried different vista cds, the only other thing I can think of is if I make a Vista SP1 DVD would this correct the problem? As this would have all the latest up-dates in it. The next thing I am going to do is reseat the CPU and fan and try another PSU. I have also tried both hdds and the problem is the same. The only thing that I can think of is that one of the other components must be faulty. I have run out of ideas. I have also replaced the motherboard and the problem is the same. When I had this up and running with 2gb for a while I notcied that everything was very slow to respond, I also went back to it to find that all the windows files were courrpt aswell. Specs, The system has 8gb OCZ High Performance PC2-6400, XFX Nforce 680i TL SLI Motherboard Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 LGA775 BFG GFX Card 260 GTX Any advice would be grateful. Thanks, wizkid __________________ |

| Re: new build not working Have you investigated the possibility of a bios problem and or the need for some drivers for your board. That's assuming that Vista supplies all the neede drivers required for the install. The corrupstion issue could be a HD or even a bad cable. Reseat the cables when you reseat the cpu. You might try running a stand alone burn in utility.

| Re: new build not working Make sure the ram voltage is set to what OCZ recommends, and manuel put in the ram speed and setting instead of auto!

| Re: new build not working Hey, Thanks for your replies. The voltages are the correct settings, I am currently testing with this mobo and psu below and the problems are still the same so would this mean that anohter part is faulty and needs replacing? I have also tried another GFX card and still the same. Asus Striker II Extreme nForce 790i Ultra SLi (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard Corsair TX 650W ATX2.2 SLi Compliant PSU Edit, I can install Vista 64Bit on 2GB but if I put it in all in I get a blue screen. I would be grateful for anymore advice, Thanks, Wizkid Last edited by wizkid; 08-16-2008 at 05:51 AM.. |

| Re: new build not working I've used that LL Corsair stuff and found that I usually have to pump an extra couple of tenths of a volt through them to get stability. I'd also recommend you drop the timing from 1T to 2 until you get stability.

| Re: new build not working I don't run Vista, but my friend does and when he went from 2 to 4 gigs of ram he had a to put in a MS hotfix to get it to run? And he was running Vista 64. You know it might be from 4 to 8, but I would do a google serch, he is running the 680 chipset and had to bump up the voltage on the northbridge also!

| Re: new build not working Hey, Thanks for your replies. I have corrected this issue with the patch and vista is now fine boots with the full 8GB, I still think the other motherboard was faulty aswell becuase it would not load with 2GB but the new one is fine now with the patch. Many thanks for all your help. Regards, Wizkid |
