| Speed Test utility to test USB Key / SD card performance? Is there a utility to test the Read/Write performance of removable storage? Something similar to the HDD ones such as HD Tach. Tried looking in google, couldnt find anything. ![]()

| Re: Speed Test utility to test USB Key / SD card performance? HD Tune will do that. I have used it via firewire, and I assume it would work similarly via usb. I would think many of the other standard hd speed utilities would be able to also. They will see the drive through Windows, just as they would see an internal drive. The differences are that SMART information will not be visible, and of course the measured speed will be reduced or limited by the interface's data rate. But that is presumably what you want to measure, rather than the potential speed of the physical drive itself that cannot be realized through the external interface. Regards, -- Al Edit: When I wrote the above I hadn't seen your subject line indicating that you were referring to solid state external storage (as opposed to usb or firewire hard drives). But I just tried HD Tune to benchmark a memory stick and an SD card, and it worked fine.

| Re: Speed Test utility to test USB Key / SD card performance? Ok thanks for that, I'll try HD Tach since I would like to test the speed of an SD card at this point.

| Re: Speed Test utility to test USB Key / SD card performance? You're welcome! Note though that I was referring to HD Tune, which is not the same as HD Tach. If HD Tach doesn't work for you, try HD Tune which is available here: HD Tune Regards, -- Al

| Re: Speed Test utility to test USB Key / SD card performance? I used a neat utility called Crystal Disk Mark to test the speed. My SD card is officially the slowest in the world lol Included the results of a 750GB perpendicular WD HDD for an unfair comparison ![]()
