Do you have a rack mount server? If so, there are rack mountable UPS's.

APC - Smart-UPS - Product Information

We have several for our servers where I work. There's a lot of different brands that offer them, so look around.

Hi,

Thanks.
Tried your link.
I dont think that was an internal UPS anyway.
By internal i mean in the CPU cabinet.
Not sure how rackmount figures there.
Im looking for a UPS for a field based server system.
Its a travelling system and i wanted to know if the ups could be built in.

If you have a non-rackmountable battery already you can use a shelf. Here's one that I use the 7206-FR-A32HD* from a company called Great Lakes.

If you don't already have a battery APC, Eaton and TripLite all make rackmount batteries. They are heavy as heck but look quite nice when installed and you don't have to worry about by-pass airflow.

Do you mean in the case?

A cabinet usually means this.

i would think if you got the room and and can let it vent if it has fans in the ups , then all you would have to do is some sheet metal work to bolt it down and then run your cables , it would be not stranger then the guy i know who put a eq/ amp board in a drive bay on his system and ran it off the power supply .

Rick EE > I mean inside the server ATX cabinet.

Metalman > Yes i thought about that. But i invested in a $200 server ATX cabinet and wouldnt consider risking it with a sheet metal fabricator here. I posted this thread thinking there would be some other smaller options which were made for ATX cabinets internal mounting. Maybe im out of luck ?

This is a first I have heard of anyone trying to install a UPS inside a computer case.

If you are quite technical, you can attempt to buy a simple UPS and take it apart. You might be able to fabricate a few hinges to secure the battery and move all the internal part of the UPS inside the CPU case.

What we normally do in this case is buy a cage that will hold the CPU and UPS inside of it. Depend on the application, you can buy a simple Mitx computer and put the UPS in a lock cage.

I think the real problem would be the size of the batteries.

One thought I have had is to make a power supply with battery connectors, so you could have external batteries and integrate the UPS and PSU.

well i under stand not wanting to cut a spendy thing like that dependin on how much power you need could you put in a small apc and then run the power cable out a card port ?much less cuttin and its only knock out plates but you would have to come up with a mount to keep it from floating around but some simple brackets should do that .
