help -digital camera problem memory card

Went to use the video function for the first time on my Canon powershot G2 digital camera yesterday resulting in the trashing of my 256MB-CRUCIAL compact flash memory card. Card not recognised in camera nor will it reformat either. My question is can the card be reformatted in any other device.I do not have another camera. Camera is not at fault as it works with another different memory card I would like to try any means of salvage ie formatting with the PC,before I bin it. any ideas?
thanks

These guys are professional digital photo people. Used their forums to solve a problem I had recently. If you think you've lost pictures on your memory card, I found a program called Photo Rescue that saved mine. There's a trial version to see if it will work for you. Not sure from your post if that's a problem too or not. Anyway, here's another link

Good luck

Monkey hanger, Live down in the Midlands .
Does your card reader allow you to FDISK the CF card via the PC with DOS, because if so I will get one as I need one anyway I am hoping that if I start from scratch on the card then I can get it going. There is some files on the card but I am not too bothered if I lost them. thanks for the help.

Panama Red - Been on to the links you gave, excellent Unfortunaely someone had similar problem and was awaiting response thanks again

HJ, I've never tried FDisk on it, so I can't comment there. It must be possible though as the PC sees the card as another drive.
I do get an option to Format though.

I have one of these drives attached to my computer as well (one of the ones that can read all the different formats)

and yes, I have tried formatting CF, Memstick etc on my comp and it works...

Give it a try if you have one of these devices (too bad I live in Canada...so I won't be of much use)

you can reformat the card in any pc -- but you need to have a compact flash reader, usb or firewire. they are fairly cheap 10-20 dollars, and frankly the compact flash readers are the way pros get their pictures from the camera to the computer. you can also use norton disk doctor and stuff like that if a serious problem, but that is probably going overboard at this stage. crucial cards are rated 8x. you may be better off with lexar cards rated 12x down the road. the pro lexar cards are 24x and 40x but pricey -- this is the relative speed the camera can write to the card. oh yes, finally, the video functions on digital cameras are not that great, better to get a camcorder. ptb
